Gamboos[1] are bamboo-like enemies debuting in Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Their basic behavior is simple, merely walking forwards like a Goomba, although some Gamboos will instead dance in place during Wonder Effects. There are two color variations of Gamboo: Purple Gamboos,[2] which turn around when facing a ledge, and Green Gamboos,[2] which fall off of edges. This dichotomy mirrors that of red and green Koopa Troopas.

Although most attacks will defeat a Gamboo, stomping it or hitting it with Elephant Mario's trunk will stun it instead. While stunned, a Gamboo functions as a Koopa Shell-like carryable object, defeating enemies and hitting blocks when thrown. If thrown into a terrain surface, it will tumble around with realistic physics, coming to rest after a few bounces. Gamboos will eventually wake up from their stunned state and resume regular behavior, even while being carried. If Mario is holding a Gamboo when it wakes up, he will take damage.

Gamboos often appear in stacks, similar to Goomba Towers. When stacked, each Gamboo can be attacked individually to dislodge it from the stack. Conversely, Gamboos can form a stack by touching other Gamboos from above or below, even if they are different colors. Some Gamboo stacks are hidden underground, with only the upper half of the topmost Gamboo being visible. These will quickly pop up when Mario approaches them.

Gamboos appear in the following levels:

Additionally, a metallic variant known as Metal Gamboo appears in Castle Bowser, with two color variations of its own.
