Bull's-Eye Banzais, referred to as Bull's-Eye Bomber Bills on the Mario Portal website,[1] are red Banzai Bills and a larger variety of Bull's-Eye Bills that debuted in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. They attack by homing in on the player character.

In the Prima Games guidebook produced for New Super Mario Bros. Wii, neither of the Banzai Bills—including the returning black ones[2]:16, 138, 142—are provided individual names, with both of them instead referred to as "King Bills."[2]:179 This name is shared with another giant Bullet Bill variant introduced in New Super Mario Bros. Wii[2]:189 and the only enemy referred to as a "King Bill" in subsequent games. The name "Bull's-Eye Banzai" was introduced in Super Mario Maker 2, resulting in this red Banzai Bill enemy being unnamed in English for about a decade.

Similarly-behaving Banzai Bills called Cat Bomber Bills appear in Super Mario 3D World and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.

History[edit]

Super Mario series[edit]

New Super Mario Bros. Wii[edit]

World 9-3
Mario encountering Bull's-Eye Banzais

Bull's-Eye Banzais are enemies in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. They are encountered in only one level, World 9-3. Unlike Missile Bills, they only have a limited homing ability where they will track their target's vertical position and then continue forward once they reach that height. Their animation is very limited as well, always maintaining a horizontal position and never turning to point at their target. It can be defeated by being stomped or if touched while under the effects of a Star. A Bull's-Eye Banzai cannot be frozen by an ice ball, which will break the ice and release itself when the ice ball reaches it. Likewise, POW Blocks are useless against them.

An unfinished setting exists suggesting some Banzai Bill Cannons would have fired them, something that never occurs during gameplay.

The Bull's-Eye Banzai is the only enemy introduced in New Super Mario Bros. Wii to not appear in New Super Mario Bros. U.

Super Mario Maker 2[edit]

Bull's-Eye Banzais appear in Super Mario Maker 2. Unlike previously, they can move a full 360° to track players like the Bull's-Eye Bill, and the marks on their eyes are red, like the normal Banzai Bill, instead of black. In a vein similar to Banzai Bills, Bull's-Eye Banzais also receive new designs for all of the present game styles, consisting of a solid red coloration of the original designs. They are replaced by Cat Bomber Bills in the Super Mario 3D World style. Additionally, Bull's-Eye Banzais in the Super Mario Bros. 3 style have extremely subtle differences in their sprites between day and night, with the night ones having one less vertical line of outline pixels behind the domed area.[3]

Mario Kart Tour[edit]

While no actual Bull's-Eye Banzais appear in Mario Kart Tour, the game introduces a red variant to the Bullet Blaster also named the Bull's-Eye Banzai.

Names in other languages[edit]

The contemporaneous name for each language is listed first. Subsequent names are listed in chronological order for each language, from oldest to newest, and have the media with which they are associated in the "notes" column. Names exclusive to localizations of the Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia are not prioritized due to concerns about circular reporting, and are only listed first for their respective languages if they are the only ones available.
