HistoryEdit
Super Mario seriesEdit
Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic / Super Mario Bros. 2Edit
Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic marks the first appearance of "Underground BGM." When that game was later redeveloped as Super Mario Bros. 2, the theme was given slightly more enhanced instrumentation and additional PCM percussion samples reminiscent of bongos, which is the version subsequent appearances of the theme in the Super Mario franchise are based on. The Super Mario Bros. 2 version is also included in the official albums FAMICOM 20TH ANNIVERSARY GAMEMUSIC DVD, Game Sound Museum: Mario Bros. / Super Mario USA, Famicom Sound History Series: Mario the Music, and The 30th Anniversary Super Mario Bros. Music.
Super Mario All-StarsEdit
The SNES remake of Super Mario Bros. 2 in Super Mario All-Stars, Super Mario All-Stars + Super Mario World, and Super Mario All-Stars Limited Edition, contains its own arrangement of "Underground BGM," which plays in the underground sections of levels like in the original game.
