"Power Up" in Super Mario Bros. | |
| Composed by: Koji Kondo | |
| First appearance | Super Mario Bros. (1985) |
| Latest appearance | The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023) |
"Power Up"[1] is a brief musical fanfare composed for Super Mario Bros. by Koji Kondo. It plays whenever the player collects a power-up.
Starting with Super Mario World, some power-ups are associated with distinct arrangements of the sound effect.
Composition[edit]
"Power Up" is an extremely sped up arrangement of "Course Clear," the theme that plays after the player completes a level. This sound effect uses a much faster harmonic rhythm and does not resolve to the tonic chord, making it sound energetic and open-ended.
Reuses[edit]

When an power-up is released from the Item Stock, a loose arrangement titled 「上の枠からアイテムがおちる時」 (-Jō no waku kara aitemu ga ochiru toki) in the soundtrack album plays.
