They only appear in Chapter 3-4: The Battle of Fort Francis and Chapter 8-2: The Crash, as they were deployed in the player's battle(s) against [[Francis]]. Using his laptop, Francis could summon several Meowbombs to attack [[Mario]] and his allies. In [[Fort Francis]], [[SurpriseMeow]]s also shoot Meowbombs at the player. Ironically, the only way to defeat a SurpriseMeow was to use [[Thoreau]]'s abilities in order to clog its cannon with Meowbombs.
