Green Rings[1][2] are objects that appear in New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U. When the player jumps through one, Green Coins appear rotating in five groups of three, with one group appearing at a time and the next appearing after all coins in the previous group have been collected and the coins disappear in three seconds if the player doesn't collect them and when the player does, the countdown resets in the next group. They serve the same purpose as Red Rings, which generate Red Coins. When all the Green Coins have been collected, the player receives a power-up or a 1-Up Mushroom.
Green Rings reappear in Super Mario 3D World. This time, they appear in the shape of a Green Star. When passed through, eight Green Coins appear, and when all Green Coins are collected, a Green Star appears. In the Prima game guide, they are called Green Star Rings.
