A Beanie is an enemy that appears in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga. It appears as a large, green bean with feet and a face, and seems to be the "Goomba" of the Beanbean Kingdom. The Parabeanie is a variant of Beanie, and both are fairly common in the overworld. Their name most likely comes from a saying, "meanie beanie", due to their mean expression and their appearance.

In Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, Beanies are normally encountered in Hoohoo Mountain; they chase after Mario and Luigi in an attempt to ram into them and start a fight, though they will occasionally trip on their face while doing this. In addition, winged Parabeanies can be found in Beanbean Fields and will revert to normal Beanies with enough damage; the beans that Queen Bean spits up during her boss battle may turn into Beanies if stomped. Pestnuts and Elite Pestnuts (which appear in Chucklehuck Woods and the Seabed) will reveal either a Beanie or a Gold Beanie if their shells are cracked; if this occurs in the Seabed, the Beanie will float to the surface, which prevents them from being fought but still counts as defeating them.

In battle, Beanies attack Mario or Luigi by running in front of one brother and ramming into them, which the Bros. can dodge or counter by jumping; they will sometimes trip before ramming, which requires the Bros. to delay their jump. The type of ram can be determined by the Beanie's proximity to the target; if they are far away, they will trip. Beanies are weak to Firebrand-based moves, and may drop Woo Beans upon defeat.

Beanies reappear in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions, functioning the same as in the original game. They also appear as the first enemies encountered in Minion Quest: The Search for Bowser, where they are fought in the level Go, Goomba, Go! They are Melee troopers and attack by charging into opponents. Their Special Skill, Mega Tackle, allows them to charge quickly into a targeted opponent, causing more damage than a regular charge. Several Beanies also attempt to attack the Koopalings when they not only intruded upon their turf but also proceeded to ignore them, although the Koopalings (who were otherwise occupied discussing how to find Bowser) managed to easily subdue them before intimidating them into fleeing. One Beanie also lines up to be Popple's new Rookie after his last one went missing, only to be turned down. While they are generally indicated to be close relatives of both Goombas and Pestnuts, the Beanie, Goomba, and Pestnut families are organized separately in the mode's enemy list.

Beanies attack Mario or Luigi by simply ramming into them. They will sometimes trip before ramming, and the Mario Brothers must not jump when they trip onto the floor. The type of ram can be determined by the Beanie's proximity to the target brother; if they are far away from the bro, they will trip. Defeating Beanies may cause them to drop Woo Beans. Pestnuts are in this game as costumes later.

It is possible to find a golden variety in Chucklehuck Woods and Oho Ocean by cracking the Pestnuts found there. Beanies also spawn if the Bros. stomp one of Queen Bean's rolling beans during the boss fight with her.

Beanie, Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions

Beanies are enemies that first appear in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, and appear in later installments such as Mario & Luigi: Dream Team and Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions. They resemble large, green beans with feet and a face, and seem to be the Beanish versions of the Goombas from the Mushroom Kingdom. They are found in various areas within the kingdom, and first appear in Hoohoo Mountain; the Gold Beanie is a stronger variant found later on in the game.

HistoryEdit

Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga / Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's MinionsEdit

Mario & Luigi: Dream TeamEdit

In Mario & Luigi: Dream Team, the Gold Beanie can summon a bunch of Beanies to chase Mario as a part of one of its attacks. During this, the Gold Beanie will hide behind one while the group of Beanies charge at Mario from behind. In this game, Beanies lack the sprout on their head.
