Template:Species-infobox The Yoofoe[1][page number needed] is a miniboss-like hat-shaped enemy making its debut in Super Mario Odyssey. Its name is a pun on the words "UFO" and "foe".

Description

The Yoofoe resembles a flying saucer UFO. It has a purple Ground Pound symbol on its head followed by an inward facing black ring along the midsection of the enemy with a menacing red eye in the front of that black ring. The bottom section consists of a silver-colored dome-like structure. This enemy makes three appearances in the game; one in the Wooded Kingdom, another in Bowser's Kingdom and the last in the Darker Side. Each time it is defeated Mario will be rewarded one Power Moon, with the exception being the Darker Side in which a Life-Up Heart is rewarded instead.

Tactics

Initially, upon noticing Mario, the Yoofoe will make a piston noise followed with it shooting out five Goombas from the silver colored dome-like rear. After this, it will emit a red circular laser followed by two short razor bars. It will then move about the stage whilst rotating these bars. It will shoot one small Spiked Ball followed by one Goomba. It will repeat this pattern until Mario either climbs to a higher elevation to ground pound it or Mario uses the Goombas the Yoofoe expels to make a Goomba Tower and then ground pound it.

After getting hit once, it will electrocute itself thus knocking Mario off its head and making all the previously spawned Goombas disappear. It will now expel a much larger red circular laser followed by four long razor bars instead of two short ones. It will continue the same pattern as it did previously with Goombas and Spiked Balls however this time after each time it releases a Goomba it will spin its four long razor bars rapidly. Thus Mario can only Ground Pound the Yoofoe when it's not spinning.

Upon defeat, a short cutscene will play with the Yoofoe spinning out of control and then exploding into a Power Moon.

Trivia

  • All of the Power Moons received from defeating the Yoofoe are titled "Invader in (area)" implying that the Yoofoe is indeed an alien invader.
