- “The White Shy Guy follows you around. Does he want to be your friend?”
- —Message Block, Yoshi's Story
White Shy Guys are a species in Yoshi's Story. They are friendly Shy Guys, unlike most, and are friends to the Yoshis. If a Baby Yoshi finds a White Shy Guy, the White Shy Guy follows behind the Yoshi like a Yoshi egg, copying the Yoshi's movements until the stage is completed. The White Shy Guy takes the place of one of the Yoshi's eggs, meaning that the Yoshi can carry only five eggs instead of the normal number of six. After the stage is completed, the White Shy Guy can be selected on the Yoshi-selection screen. There can potentially be multiple White Shy Guys on the selection screen if the player collects them throughout the game without using them. If selected, the White Shy Guy equips the propeller of a Flying Shy Guy and travels to Baby Bowser's castle in order to rescue any Yoshi that has been captured by the Toadies. White Shy Guys are usually hidden inside ? Bubbles or ? Blocks in the levels they appear in. The bubbles or blocks that contain them can spawn in the respective levels only if the player has lost a Yoshi.
Other appearances of white Shy GuysEdit
In other games, white-colored Shy Guys sometimes appear in similar capacities to other colors of Shy Guys, rather than be treated as unique like in Yoshi's Story.
Mario Kart seriesEdit
A white Shy Guy is one of the random color schemes for the playable Shy Guy in Mario Kart DS exclusive to DS Download Play mode.
A White Shy Guy is available as a downloadable character in Mario Kart 8. The player can unlock it by buying both the The Legend of Zelda × Mario Kart 8 and Animal Crossing × Mario Kart 8 downloadable content packs. In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the White Shy Guy is included as an alternate color for Shy Guy within the base game.
In Mario Kart Tour, Shy Guy (Pastry Outfit) wears a white cloak and black shoes.
Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story / Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s JourneyEdit
In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, white Shy Guys appear during one of a Sniffle Thwomp's attacks. When it faints, three white Shy Guys come in, pick it up, and attempt to ram it into its opponents. In Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, they now use their design from Mario Kart 8.
Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter GamesEdit
A white Shy Guy also appears in the DS version of Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Winter Games. Here, it appears in the Adventure Tours mode in Frostown. If the player fails a mission a certain number of times, the white Shy Guy will offer a completion ticket, which can then be used to skip the mission. This does not work with the final three missions against Bowser and Dr. Eggman, since the first mission immediately starts upon encountering them and the subsequent missions start as soon as the previous ones end. If the player uses a ticket to clear Rouge's mission, it is revealed that Bowser and Eggman gave the white Shy Guy the tickets in the first place.
Yoshi's Crafted WorldEdit
In Yoshi's Crafted World, several Shy Guy variants wear space-themed silver clothing in Outer Orbit.
