Barrel Guys are variants of Shy Guys that appear in Mario Tennis Aces. They are Shy Guys who use barrel lids as shields to defend themselves, similar to Shield Guys. They only appear in the "Shy Guy Train Tussle" co-op challenge, where they show up alongside other Shy Guys as part of the Shy Guy bandits supporting their boss, the Bandit boss. Barrel Guys can appear randomly in stages six and seven of the challenge, where there are two types: the first type appears on the train alongside other Shy Guys and remains stationary, while the second can appear walking on the sidewalk. To defeat a Barrel Guy, the player needs to hit it two times, the first one to remove its barrel lid and the second to defeat it. Defeating a Barrel Guy grants seven coins. In addition to their usual colors, a green variant also appears. In the July 2019 update, pink, cyan, and orange variants were introduced as well.
