Title[edit]

The article title is conjectural but is formatted like a pseudo-official name whereas conjectural names should be more descriptive. "Barrel Guy" is inaccurate as a descriptive name (Shy Guys are not called just "Guys") and tries to sound official while it shouldn't. A name like "Barrel Shy Guy" or "Barrel lid Shy Guy" would be better and sound less fan-namey. Jdtendo(T|C) 02:52, December 5, 2025 (EST)

Look at this: "simple yet accurate title". Shy Guy variants are commonly called by a small descriptor of their characteristic + Guy. For example, there you have Mace Guy, Shield Guy, Anti Guy, Petal Guy and Mega Guy. The conjectural name Barrel Guy is adapted from the name commonly used for Shy Guy variants, while also simply explaining its characteristic, which is carrying BARREL lids. Not always the case. This is like Piranha Plant variants, where some only have the "Piranha" part (Putrid Piranha, Frost Piranha), but others carry the full name (Fire Piranha Plant, Bone Piranha Plant). ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 11:30, December 5, 2025 (EST)
That's true, but I think there are more variants here that use only Guy in their name. I didn't want to list them all, but I think I'll have to make a comparison table. Sorbetti Sorbetti Sorbetti (talk) 13:34, December 5, 2025 (EST)
In total, based on a research and a bit of help in Excel, 17 Shy Guy variants use "Shy Guy" in their name, while 43 Shy Guy variants use "Guy" in their name. 17 + 43 = 60, so that's 60 Shy Guys in total. From that, I calculated the percentages: 28% of Shy Guy variants use "Shy Guy," and 72% use only "Guy." That's a 44% difference, so I think Barrel Guy is a more suitable name than Barrel Shy Guy. I was forgetting how useful Excel is for these things. Sorbetti Sorbetti Sorbetti (talk) 14:36, December 5, 2025 (EST)
I still think it ought to be "Barrel Shy Guy" if anything. There are other Guys besides Shy Guys, so what's to be gained from using a less descriptive name? This also applies to some other derived names I've seen lately - as far as I'm concerned, if it's "x Heihō" instead of "x-", it should be "x Shy Guy", not "x Guy". Given the discussion I just started below this one, I would recommend renaming to Barrel lid Shy Guy, leaving Barrel Shy Guy for the enemy I described there. — Lady Sophie_17 Wiggler Sophie.png(T|C) 12:49, April 7, 2026 (UTC)
I support the move to Barrel Shy Guy. Sorbetti Sorbetti Sorbetti (talk) 00:28, April 8, 2026 (UTC)

I still don't get why this should be considered a distinct variant with its own page rather than just a normal Shy Guy holding a barrel lid. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 08:12, December 5, 2025 (EST)

This is how most Shy Guy variants work; they're Shy Guys that hold something, and that changes their behavior. What this page is missing is a name, which can be extracted from the internal names. That way, it will have its own name, just like some Shy Guy variants in Yoshi's Crafted World. Sorbetti Sorbetti Sorbetti (talk) 09:22, December 5, 2025 (EST)
I agree with Sorbetti. Should we merge Clip Guys and Paint Guys with the Shy Guy article just because they hold something? PrincessPeachFan (talk) 07:01, December 6, 2025 (EST)
no, because those are recognized as a distinct variant by the game itself. — eviemaybe Tanooki Mario's tail, cropped (talk) 09:14, December 6, 2025 (EST)

The page has now been moved to "barrel Shy Guy" per discussion. Closing the talk template. — Lady Sophie_17 Wiggler Sophie.png(T|C) 01:01, April 8, 2026 (UTC)

Other Shy Guy variants[edit]

So this is a Shy Guy that is protected by an object which gives it an extra hit, and once defeated, grants a larger amount of points than a regular Shy Guy (7 instead of 3). My issue is: This behavior is shared by two other types of Shy Guys which are currently not recognized as distinct enemies by this wiki: A Shy Guy hidden inside a color-matching crate, and a Shy Guy hidden inside a color-matching barrel. Both are also Shy Guys protected by another object which gives them an extra hit, and once defeated, grant a larger amount of points than a regular Shy Guy (7 instead of 3). I think it is inconsistent to only consider this Guy a unique variant and not the others. I'm starting this talk page to gauge people's opinions on giving them all conjecturally made pages, and maybe reconsider if we need this page in the first place. I recommend crate Shy Guy and barrel Shy Guy (with title casing at the title, obviously) for conjectural names, along with a rename of this page to barrel lid Shy Guy, per the points raised above.

Regarding their behavior, this is the reason I would consider both of them different from each other: "Crate Shy Guys" remain hidden in their crates until they are destroy, which takes one hit. "Barrel Shy Guys" instead pop out and land on top of their barrels after it takes one hit, with the barrel itself lasting two hits. This is a behavior consistent with the regular crates and barrels of this mode, which also take one and two hits to destroy, respectively. — Lady Sophie_17 Wiggler Sophie.png(T|C) 12:49, April 7, 2026 (UTC)

This page was split via proposal, and I created the Bandit Shy Guy page because it was too different from normal Shy Guys, and I think the same of Barrel Shy Guy. On the other hand, I don't think it's a bad idea to create pages for the other Shy Guys as long as it really helps the organization and they behave differently from normal Shy Guys.
