A stage in Shy Guy Train Tussle

Shy Guy Train Tussle is a four player Co-op Challenge in Mario Tennis Aces. It exclusively uses Swing Mode controls. In this event, players have to retrieve as many coins as possible from a band of Shy Guys who have stolen them and are trying to escape by train. To earn coins, players must use snowballs to defeat Shy Guys (who are either on the train or around the train) or destroy the train's freight consisting of crates and barrels. Stationary cannons in the background shoot snowballs for players to hit. There are eight stages in total, the game proceeds to the next stage only after the group total reaches a certain threshold of coins within the time limit.

In version 3.1.0, Shy Guy Train Tussle was permanently added to Special Games in Swing Mode as a co-op or competitive mode.

Stages[edit]

There are 29 different layouts for each stage, with each layout having a varying amount of obstacles, Shy Guy colors and chests. Each layout has at least one chest which can be unlocked either by defeating a number of Shy Guys in a specific color, or by collecting a specific key hidden in the stage. A large bandit Shy Guy known as the bandit boss appears as a boss in the fourth and eighth stages, wearing a yellow bandana in the former and a red bandana in the latter. Players must defeat them both times in order to successfully complete the Co-op Challenge.

Bonus stage[edit]

Hitting Shy Guys also increases a Frenzy bar. When the Frenzy bar is filled up, Frenzy Time will be activated, inserting a bonus stage before the next stage. During it, three or four Shy Guy Towers appear in front of the players. Each tower is composed of sections of different colors, also carrying crates with items between them. All players then continuously receive snowballs to hit them at once. At the top of each stack is a key in a crate that opens a chest which contains bonus coins. There is no coin goal for the bonus stage and it will end once all Shy Guys have been defeated or if the timer runs out.
