Mimics[1][2] are enemies that first appear in Donkey Kong Country Returns. They are bushes with glowing yellow eyes and two short legs that inblend in with the scenery because they appear only in silhouette levels of the Donkey Kong Country series.

History[edit]

Donkey Kong Country Returns (3D / HD)[edit]

Mimics first appear in Donkey Kong Country Returns and return in its enhanced ports for the Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch, Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and Donkey Kong Country Returns HD respectively. They are found in only one level, the Jungle level Sunset Shore. Whenever a Mimic is approached by the Kongs, it hops up and chases them. Touching a Mimic causes Donkey and Diddy (as well as Dixie in Donkey Kong Country Returns HD since Ver. 1.1.0) to lose a heart point, like with most enemies. A Mimic can be defeated from either a jump or a Roll Attack. If Donkey Kong Hand Slaps with a Mimic on the screen, leaves will shake off from the bush; the leaves also move around slightly while regular bushes have no animation.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze[edit]

Mimics return in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and its enhanced Nintendo Switch port of the same name, reprising their roles in its predecessor. The game also introduces a bigger variety known as Large Mimics. Mimics appear in only one level—the Lost Mangroves level Busted Bayou—along with Large Mimics.

Naming[edit]

Mimics' name is shared with the treasure chest enemy from role-playing games in general.
