“Ooh, it's a Hammer Scrap! If you collect enough of these, you'll be able to store more paint in your paint hammer. Enemies sometimes drop them after battle, so pick them up before they disappear!”

Hammer Scraps are collectible items found in Paper Mario: Color Splash. They serve the role of Experience Points (or EXP) for increasing the capacity of Mario's paint reserves, being depicted as cardboard pieces shaped like hammers. Similar to Points in Super Paper Mario, each subsequent MAX Paint Up requires more Hammer Scraps than the last. Unlike Points and Star Points however, they are not earned automatically, as Hammer Scraps are dropped physically after battles.

Values[edit]

There are four types of Hammer Scraps, each with increasing embellishments and Experience Points rewarded. The amount of experience dropped from a battle will be compacted into the most valuable forms of Hammer Scraps when possible. For example, six EXP would result in a one basic and one second-level Hammer Scrap being dropped.

Notes[edit]

  • Certain enemies with post-battles cutscenes, particularly the Koopalings and Black Bowser, have defined Hammer Scrap amounts to drop despite none dropping after combat. Since Hammer Scraps have to be physically collected post-battle unlike Star Points, it is possible Hammer Scraps were originally rewarded automatically during development, leading to this discrepancy.
