Before the battle, a seemingly regular [[Goomba]] walks onscreen before transforming into the Mega Goomba and commencing the battle. When it grows, it makes a sound similar to touching a [[Mega Mushroom]], only somewhat more menacing. [[Mario]] (or [[Luigi]]) must defeat him to acquire the [[key]] that provides access to [[World 5 (New Super Mario Bros.)|World 5]].


To defeat the Mega Goomba, Mario can activate a switch, causing two [[platform]]s to appear. When Mario stands on one of them, it will elevate in the air. From there, Mario can either [[Wall Jump|wall-jump]], [[jump]], or [[Ground Pound|ground-pound]] directly on top of the Mega Goomba. The Mega Goomba[1][2] is the boss of World 4 in New Super Mario Bros. Mega Goomba is fought in World 4-Castle. Just before the battle starts, Mega Goomba is first shown to be a regular Goomba, and it walks onscreen before transforming into the Mega Goomba. While growing, Mega Goomba makes a sound similar to touching a Mega Mushroom. To defeat the Mega Goomba, Mario (or Luigi) can activate a ? Switch, causing two platforms to appear. When Mario stands on a platform, it will elevate in the air. From there, Mario has to ground-pound onto the Mega Goomba to attack it. Alternatively, Mega Mario, Shell Mario's Shell Dash technique, or Fire Mario's fireballs can also damage Mega Goomba.
