"Stage Start"[1] is an atonal ten-note percussion musical jingle composed by Koji Kondo for Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, where it plays at the start of every level. It is played solely on percussion.

Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island marks the first appearance of "Stage Start". It is also included in the official soundtrack album Super Mario: Yossy Island Original Sound Version.
In the Game Boy Advance remake of Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Yoshi's Island: Super Mario Advance 3, an arrangement of "Stage Start" arranged by Taiju Suzuki plays for the same purpose as in the original game.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U[edit]

In Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, an upbeat, synth-focused medley arrangement of "Stage Start", "Flower Field BGM", "Opening Melody", and "Map Screen" from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island arranged by Yoshihito Yano can play in the Woolly World stage. It is titled "Yoshi's Island" in the game's sound test.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe[edit]
In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, as part of Wave 4 of the Booster Course Pass, a Latin-styled arrangement of "Stage Start" plays at the starting grid of the Yoshi's Island race course in Grand Prix or VS Race, replacing the usual "Starting Grid (Grand Prix / VS Race)" jingle. It is titled "Starting Grid (Yoshi's Island)" in the Nintendo Music app.

Mario Kart Tour[edit]
In Mario Kart Tour, the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe arrangement of "Stage Start" plays at the starting grid of the Yoshi's Island race course, replacing the usual "Starting Grid" jingle.
Mario Kart World[edit]
In Mario Kart World, the game's arrangement of "Athletic BGM" from Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, which can play in Free Roam during the day, on the route from Dino Dino Jungle to Great ? Block Ruins in the Banana Cup, and on any VS Race route during the day, quotes "Stage Start" at the end of the A section. It is fully titled "Athletic BGM (Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island)" in the Nintendo Music app.
