Goomba is a course part included in Super Mario Maker, Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, and Super Mario Maker 2. It can be used in the Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, New Super Mario Bros. U, and Super Mario 3D World Game Styles. In the Super Mario World Game Style, Goombas are replaced with Galoombas. Introduced in Super Mario Maker 2, holding down a Goomba to access its pop-up menu allows it to be transformed into a Goombrat in all 3 Game Styles besides Super Mario 3D World. Goombrats
Goombas and Goombrats are the subject of distinct Clear Conditions. defeating a Goomba will not count towards a "Reach the goal after defeating all (#) Goombrat." Clear Condition, and vice versa.
Behavior
By default, Goombas will begin walking to the left at a slow speed, and only turn around if they touch a solid wall, freely walking off ledges if encountered. Their movement speed in the standard Game Styles perfectly matches that of the slow Autoscroll speed. In the Super Mario 3D World Style, they move slightly slower.
Exclusively in the Super Mario 3D World Style, Goombas will enter a "chasing" state if Mario is within a space spanning 5 blocks forward from the Goomba, 2 blocks above it, and 1 block below it. In this state the Goomba will move much quicker, and not turn around if touching a wall. A Goomba will exit its "chasing" state if Mario exits a larger space 8 blocks in front of the Goomba, 4 blocks above it, and 2 blocks below it. From there, the Goomba resumes its standard patrolling behavior.
In the Underwater theme, and night versions of the Ground and Airship theme, Goombas take on unique swimming behavior. By default, goombas will float in place, slightly drifint up and down and rotating randomly. If Mario gets within 4 blocks in any direction, the Goomba will begin to orient itself towards Mario before swimming forwards towards him. If Mario gets more than 4 blocks away, the Goomba will stop chasing and idly float again. In the Forest theme, Goombas will enter this swimming state if they become fully submerged in the course's water, and return to walking if forced onto land. Swimming Goombas will not acknowledge Mario if he is out of the water, and cannot swim out of water on their own.
Goombas can be given Super Mushrooms, wings, and parachutes and any combinations thereof. A big Goomba will double in size like most other course parts, but also inherit the behavior of Hefty Goombas from the New Super Mario Bros. games, splitting into two normal Goombas when stomped rather than being defeated. If damaged by any other means, the big Goomba will not split and instead be defeated immediately. For the "Reach the goal after defeating # Goombas." Clear Condition, defeating both Goombas spawned from a big Goomba are counted 1 Goomba. Both Goombas must be defeated for their key to be obtained. In the Advanced Item Types tutorial in Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, Yamamura refers to an enlarged Goomba as a Big Goomba.
Winged Goombas behave similarly to Paragoombas from other titles, as they walk along the ground and periodically flutter on the ground before briefly jumping 1.5 blocks into the air. Like usual, they will turn around when touching a wall, but will now turn around to face Mario whenever they land from a jump. The Goomba will turn to face Mario no matter how far away he is. When swimming, winged Goombas turn much faster than normal Goombas and swim in much faster, further strokes. If stomped, a winged Goomba or big winged Goomba will lose its wings and return to normal Goomba or big Goomba behavior respectively.
By default, Goombrats act the same as Goombas, but will turn around when reaching a ledge as well as a wall. When given wings, Goombrats jump 4 blocks high, and will not chase Mario, instead turning back with every jump, generally keeping them contained to a 5 block footprint. When underwater, Goombrats will constantly swim in random directions with no idle state.
Interactions
When defeated, a Goomba normally grants 200 points. If defeated as part of a combo, a Goomba will give the standard combo score. Goombas can be defeated by the following interactions:
- A stomp from above by Mario
- Being crushed
- A block bump from below through a Block, ? Block, Hidden Block, Note Block, Music Block, or ON/OFF Switch
- Contact with the dust clouds from a big Shoe or big Stiletto's ground pound

In the Super Mario 3D World Style, Goombas can also be defeated by contact with Bullet Bills and Banzai Bills. In the other Game Styles, the two pass through each other unaffected.
When placed into a Koopa Clown Car, the Goomba will pilot it towards Mario. If placed into a Lakitu's Cloud, the Goomba will fly in a horizontal line trying to follow Mario.
Goombas can be placed on tracks, and will move at a standard speed. Like most other parts, giving it wings will make it move along the track almost twice as fast. If a winged Goomba or big winged Goomba on a track is stomped, it will lose its wings and fall from the track. If a big Goomba on a track is stomped, its constitute regular Goombas will fall from the track.
