Fire geysers[1] are fumarole-like hazards in Super Mario Galaxy. They appear as small mounds on the ground or on walls that periodically release hot steam. They are safe to touch while inactive, but if Mario or Luigi touches them while they are expelling steam (which they do after a second of warning in the form of weaker steam that is safe to touch), he will catch fire and run around uncontrollably while losing a wedge of health, in a similar fashion to touching lava and other hot obstacles. Underwater versions also appear as hydrothermal vents. These versions constantly discharge steam and appear in groups of three.
Lava geysers are common in heat-themed galaxies, although they make their debut as the "nostrils" of Space Junk Galaxy's Yoshi-shaped planet. They appear in the following list of galaxies and missions. If no mission is stated, lava geysers appear during all missions:
- Space Junk Galaxy ("Yoshi's Unexpected Appearance"; regular)
- Freezeflame Galaxy ("Freezeflame's Blistering Core"; regular)
- Sea Slide Galaxy (underwater)
- Bonefin Galaxy (underwater
- Melty Molten Galaxy (regular)
- Bowser's Galaxy Reactor (regular)
