“This hefty young herbivore can use her trunk to pick up and shoot barrels at enemies. She can also suck barrels toward if they're out of reach. Ellie has the ability to suck up water, which she uses to shoot at the baddies.”
Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble! instruction booklet, page 17

Ellie the Elephant is an Animal Friend in the Donkey Kong franchise who debuted in Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!; she is the first Animal Friend known to be female (followed by Jungle Buddy Orco).

History

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!

In Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, Ellie can pull barrels in from distance and carry them with her trunk; she can also collect water in her trunk and shoot it at enemies. She is extremely afraid of mice and will run whenever she sees one, which is a reference to the real world where elephants have been shown to be negatively conscious of mice; the "Stampede Sprint" level in the secret world Krematoa centers around Ellie running uncontrollably after coming upon a trio of mice. Ellie is one of three Animal Friends to fight a boss; she battles the waterfall monster Squirt in Cotton-Top Cove.

Levels:

Donkey Kong Land III

In Donkey Kong Land III, Ellie plays differently than in Donkey Kong Country 3; first, she has an unlimited water supply and can spray water in any level she appears in, plus she does not run from mice and she cannot drag barrels with her trunk.

Levels:

Donkey Konga

Ellie reappears in Donkey Konga as a background character in two modes. In "Street Performance", she appears at the bottom-left corner of the screen, next to the coin counter. In "Jam Session", she and the other background characters, including King K. Rool, Cranky Kong, Diddy Kong, Rambi and the Banana Birds, appear on the bottom screen while the player performs a "jam session". Ellie was relocated to the bottom-right corner.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

Ellie is set to appear as a spirit in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
