Jugemu no Mario Kart 64 Maruhi Kōryakuhō is a segment of the official Japanese Mario Kart 64 website published in 1997. The section is written partially from the perspective of Lakitu, with the remaining sections being written by the game's development staff. Within the section, Lakitu provides and reacts to tips to win races, in addition to facts about the game.
Website description[edit]
- From here on, it’s the corner where Lakitu brings you game sure-win information & behind-the-scenes stories! Unbelievably, the development staff directly taught me fun and useful information, and I, Lakitu, will introduce it with a bang! Well then, right away, starting with the sure-win methods for VS Mode…
- ● If you place the banana item behind the item box (on the back side, in its shadow), it’s very hard to see, so the effect is outstanding!
- That’s right, the iron rule is to place it where the opponent can’t see it~. Okay, next?
- ● The worse your ranking, the better items you can obtain.
- I see, that’s why there are so many chances for a comeback.
- ● Therefore, in a close match, right after passing through an item box, you can deliberately let the opponent pass you, drop your position, and then press the confirm button to get a good item.
- Amazing! A do-or-die technique.
- ● When the opponent is running in a place where it’s easy to go off course, using Thunder is even more effective.
- So it means you should calmly watch the opponent kart’s movements too. Well then, continuing on, I’ll reveal some behind-the-scenes stories~.
- ● The highway bus driver (silhouette) is Ukiki from "Super Mario 64."
- ● In Sherbet Land, try colliding with the penguins while in invincible state.
- What will happen, I wonder? Changing the subject…
- ● After clearing each cup, there is an award ceremony, but please, at least once, watch the ceremony when you clear with 4th place or lower.
- So there’s fun you’d miss if you only thought about winning. Deep stuff. Now, finally, here’s a message from the "Mario Kart 64" sound staff.
- "The kart engine sounds have five types: 'Mario & Luigi,' 'Peach & Yoshi,' 'Wario & Bowser,' and then 'Toad,' 'Donkey.' Did you notice?"
"In this Mario Kart 64, we applied the indispensable 'Doppler effect'’ to many sound effects for a speedy game. Not only the kart engine sounds, but also the sound of waterfalls, the horns of ordinary cars on the highway, and the sound of the railroad crossing barrier-truly many sound effects are affected. Because relative position and speed act on the sound in real time, if those conditions change, the way it sounds changes considerably. For example, the railroad crossing barrier sound is quite different when you stop and listen versus when you dash through. We also paid a lot of attention to changes in volume. Sounds of actions caused by rivals far away are made to ring, as much as possible, at the correct position. While playing, please listen carefully to these kinds of changes in sound."
- Hmm, so they’re pursuing fun and realism in all sorts of aspects. As another behind-the-scenes sound story, we received the comment: "The two women who performed the voices of Peach and Toad were very charming people!" I wish I could have met them~.
- That concludes the valuable information about the hot and fun action racing game "Mario Kart 64"! Everyone, please find your own ways to enjoy it! And we’re waiting for your opinions and impressions of this game. Please send mail to the following address. Even about the TV commercial is fine.
