The title of this article is from the English Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia which reportedly sourced some names from fan wikis. If a higher-priority source is found, then the current reference should be removed and the title moved to the higher-priority name, if applicable.

Sinking and Rising Mushrooms[1] are types of Mushroom Platforms found in the New Super Mario Bros. subseries.

History[edit]

New Super Mario Bros.[edit]

Sinking and Rising Mushrooms first appear in New Super Mario Bros. They are platforms that, when stood on, either rise or fall a certain length depending on their color; yellow-and-orange ones fall, whereas orange-and-red ones rise. They appear only in World 5-4, though a mechanical object that acts identically appears during the fight against Mega Goomba.

New Super Mario Bros. 2[edit]

Sinking and Rising Mushrooms return in New Super Mario Bros. 2, exhibiting the same behavior as in New Super Mario Bros., albeit with different color schemes; light-blue ones fall, whereas pink ones rise. They appear in World 5-4 and the third level of the Gold Mushroom Pack.
