GameplayEdit
An instructor character gives the player a level dependent number of cardinal directional commands, with text accompaniment, for a dance. The same direction cannot be given twice in a row. The objective of the game is to remember the order of the directions then repeat them on the to have the King of Jam perform the dance correctly. Pressing a direction which is not the next direction of the dance causes the microgame to instantly end as a loss. It takes half of the microgame's length for the instructor to finish giving commands, and input is not registered until after the instructor finishes giving instructions.
In WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, the instructor is a human is in the upper left corner of the screen, and the King of Jam is an anthropomorphized dog. The instructor uses a hand to point at the screen before the instructions start, point in the corresponding direction for each instruction, open their hand while the word "Please" is displayed when the King of Jam is allowed to act, and gives a thumbs-up while the word "Good" is displayed when the dance is completed correctly. The King of Jam is only visible after a spotlight shines on them, which only happens after the instructor finishes providing instructions. The King of Jam dances by pointing one arm in each direction, with the other arm either being used to point but not reaching as far when moving "left" or "right" or being placed on a hip when moving "up" or "down". If the player inputs an incorrect move, the instructor will be shocked, and the word "NO!" is shown.
In WarioWare Gold, both the instructor and the King of Jam redesigned to be anthropomorphic cats. The instructor stands normally to the left of the King of Jam, and wears black clothing including a hoodie. The King of Jam is similar, but has a white shirt and gold chain instead of the hoodie. They are portrayed more as equals than as an instructor to student relationship. Both characters are always visible, but a spotlight is only over the instructor when they give instructions and only over the King of Jam when they have to repeat the instructions. The instructor dances to indicate the directions while the King of Jam watches them, afterward the instructor looks at the King of Jam when the latter has to repeat the dance without the word "Please" being displayed. The instructions are voiced in addition to their visual and textual depictions, with English voicing being used for all languages except Japanese, which has its own voicing. There is one more command in the dance in each level of the microgame. The dance's animations are completely changed, with "left" and "right" being hip thrusts in the corresponding direction, "down" being a handstand, and "up" being an upward stretch. Each of the moves the King of Jam does is accompanied by the text for the direction If the dance is successful, both the instructor and the King of Jam cross their arms while the word "Nice" is displayed. The spotlight becomes wider to shine on both of them. If the player uses an incorrect input at any point, the instructor gets angry and the King of Jam panics. The word "No" is displayed over the instructor. The spotlight is also wide here, but uses red light.
