The Star Sprite that lives within the Cobalt Star,[1] also referred to as the Star Sprite[2][3] or spirit of the star,[4] is a character who appears in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time. She is the disguised form of the elder Princess Shroob, who had been imprisoned within the Cobalt Star earlier in the story by Princess Peach. In this form, she appears as a translucent blue star with a pink ribbon, somewhat resembling Misstar.

The Star Sprite is encountered at the top of Star Hill after defeating Commander Shroob, and attempts to coerce the heroes into releasing her by claiming to hold the power to defeat the Shroobs. She asks them to collect the remaining Shards in order to break into Shroob Castle and directs the heroes to the Star Shrine, where two of the shards can be found. Her true identity as the elder Princess Shroob is foreshadowed by Baby Luigi crying in her presence.

She is not seen again after this, but once the Cobalt Star is restored, the elder Princess Shroob uses her regained power to break free of her prison and attack the heroes, with them realizing that the Star Sprite was her all along.
