The Star Sprites are a species which appear in Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. They are spherical beings with small star-shaped objects perched on their heads. The most notable member of this species is Starlow, who is generally the only member who is shown in-person, though three elderly Star Sprites with mustaches are shown in a flashback sealing away the evil Dark Star.

In Mario & Luigi: Brothership, Starlow implies that the true form of Star Sprites is very different, as she actually has eight heads; this is a mistranslation, as in the original Japanese script she says her true form is eight heads tall.[1] Starlow makes further appearances in later Mario & Luigi games, usually nominally referencing the Star Sprites.

Notes[edit]

  • In all European translations but the English and Spanish ones, the Star Sprites are called "Star Spirits", but it is not clear if they are related to Paper Mario's Star Spirits. Their Japanese name is written as 「スターの精」 Sutā no Sei compared to the Star Spirits' 「の精」 Hoshi no Sei, both of which translate into "Star Spirits" or "Star Sprites". Additionally, in the American English version of Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, Starlow introduces herself as a representative of the "star spirits" rather than the Star Sprites.
  • While Star Sprites do not appear in Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time, the spirit of the Cobalt Star calls itself a Star Sprite.
