Wisdurm X is the boss faced in Class 3, as well as battle 3 of Class 7 in the Gauntlet in the game Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story. It costs 800 coins to battle Wisdurm X, and the player has 18 turns to defeat her. In this form, Wisdurm X appears identical to her weaker counterpart, Wisdurm, but with a green and orange color scheme instead of pink and yellow.

Defeating Wisdurm X for the first time in the DS version gives 4000 coins as an award. In the 3DS remake, the coin award is instead 2400, but the Speed Star accessory is also given.

Battle[edit]

Just like the original Wisdurm fight, this battle has a unique meter mechanic that causes Wisdurm X to switch between two forms during the battle. The form at the start of the battle is the small Durmite X, but filling the meter will cause her to transform into the bigger Wisdurm X form. This bigger form has increased POW and slightly over double the DEF, as well as different attacks. The increased DEF causes Wisdurm X to take about half the damage compared to the small Durmite X.

The meter mechanic of the fight works differently in the original DS version and the 3DS remake:

  • In the original DS version, the meter is visualized as a gauge with Durmite X on the left and Wisdurm X on the right. An arrow points to how much the meter is filled. The meter has a maximum of 20 units (despite the in-game graphic of the meter being broken up into 16 segments).
    • For the small Durmite X form, the meter fills depending on the number of times she has been hit and the strength of the hits. A hit can fill the meter by at least four units, or by at most nine units if the hit is strong enough. This causes Special Attacks that hit multiple times to usually max out the meter if an Excellent rating is obtained. When the meter is filled, it will flash, and Durmite X will transform into Wisdurm X. Compared to the original Wisdurm fight, the minimum and maximum a hit can fill the meter by is increased by one unit. This causes the small Durmite X to transform after less hits.
    • For the big Wisdurm X form, the meter fills when Wisdurm X is hit similarly to when the small Durmite X form is hit. During Wisdurm X's shrink attack, counterattacks do not cause the meter to fill. In this form, the Magic Rod can be targeted and attacked, with each hit draining the meter by three units. Every time Wisdurm X attacks, the meter will go down by one unit. When the meter empties, Wisdurm X will transform back into the small Durmite X form. Compared to the original Wisdurm fight, the meter increases when Wisdurm X is hit, instead of decreasing by one unit per hit. The meter filling instead of draining when Wisdurm X gets hit means that she will never transform back into the small Durmite X form unless the Magic Rod is targeted.
  • In the 3DS remake, the meter is instead visualized through lit up segments on the Magic Rod. The Magic Rod consists of six segments, with each segment bring three units big, resulting in a maximum of 18 units. Each segment being three units big is not shown through the Magic Rod's appearance and only matters in the big Wisdurm X form.
    • For the small Durmite X form, the Magic Rod fills by one segment (three units) every time she is hit. When the Magic Rod completely fills, it will flash, and Durmite X will transform into Wisdurm X.
    • For the big Wisdurm X form, the Magic Rod as a meter has many differences compared to the original DS version; instead of hits against Wisdurm X filling the Magic Rod, each hit causes the Magic Rod to go down by one unit. Every three hits to Wisdurm X will cause one of the six filled segments of the Magic Rod to drain. Unlike the original DS version, during Wisdurm X's shrink attack, counterattacks do cause the Magic Rod to drain like normal attacks against Wisdurm X. In this form, the Magic Rod can be targeted and attacked, with each hit draining the meter by three units. Also unlike the original DS version, Wisdurm X's own attacks no longer drain the Magic Rod by one unit. When the Magic Rod empties, Wisdurm X will transform back into the small Durmite X form.

In the small Durmite X form, she has only one attack.

  • Durmite X creates a string of silk and swings toward one of the brothers. The hammer must be swung before Durmite X hits the brother to counterattack. Failing to counterattack will cause Durmite X to swing around and attack again. In the DS version, this attack continues indefinitely until a successful counterattack. In the 3DS version, this attack can hit at most 8 times. Compared to the original Wisdurm fight, the speed of the swing is faster.

In the big Wisdurm X form, she has three attacks. Sometimes, she can act twice in a row with one of the attacks being the shrink attack.

  • Wisdurm X creates a large crystal in the shape of a heart above the brothers. Before the crystal falls, an image of Mario or Luigi will appear in the crystal as a tell for who it is about to fall on. The targeted brother must swing the hammer to send the crystal back into the air. Once the crystal is above the brothers again, the attack and tell repeats until the crystal shatters after being struck enough times. The amount of times the crystal must be hammered to shatter it is initially four, but this increases as Wisdurm X is damaged. When the crystal is sent back into the air, Wisdurm X visually becomes angered, and when it shatters, she sheds a tear. If the target brother gets hit by the crystal, Wisdurm X laughs. Getting hit by the crystal has a chance to inflict dizzy. Compared to the original Wisdurm fight, the initial number of times the crystal must be hit to shatter it is increased from three to four.
  • Wisdurm X starts shooting a stream of stars, which must be jumped over to dodge. The stream of stars sweeps across the battlefield multiple times. During the attack, Wisdurm X will use the Magic Rod multiple times to swap the positions of the brothers. Getting hit by the stars has a chance to inflict DEF-Down. Compared to the original Wisdurm fight, the Magic Rod swap can be used from the beginning instead of after taking enough damage. In the DS version, the stars move slower on the vertical axis of the battlefield, making the timing for a jump over it tighter.
  • Only after taking enough damage, Wisdurm X uses the Magic Rod to strike a brother with a magic blast that shrinks them. This magic cannot be avoided, but does no damage. Wisdurm X then starts chasing the tiny brother. As Wisdurm X approaches, the tiny brother must use the hammer to counterattack and continue running. After striking Wisdurm X four times in DS, or eight times in 3DS, she sheds a tear and the tiny brother returns to normal. If Wisdurm X gets too close to the tiny brother, or the tiny brother runs far enough without counterattacking enough times, Wisdurm X will squish and damage the tiny brother, who then returns to normal size. In the original DS version, the tiny brother's counterattacks are limited to dealing 1 damage, but this limit is not in the 3DS remake. Compared to the original Wisdurm fight, Wisdurm X moves faster and the number of hits needed to end the attack is increased from three to four in DS, or six to eight in 3DS.

Unlike the original Wisdurm fight where the small Durmite form is immune to the burn and dizzy status effects, the small Durmite X form is not immune to these status effects. Despite the small Durmite X not being immune to these status effects, the big Wisdurm X form is still immune to them. If the small Durmite X gets one of these status effects and then transforms into Wisdurm X, the status effect will remain on Wisdurm X and function as normal.

Like many other bosses in the 3DS version after taking enough damage, Wisdurm X will gain the fury status effect. This status effect causes Wisdurm X to receive increased POW and DEF.

Upon defeat, Wisdurm X will always revert to the small Durmite X form before the boss defeat animation plays.
