Dark-Light Device

The Dark-Light Device (also simply known as Dark-Light or Dark Light[1]) first appears in Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon as an add-on to the Poltergust 5000. When using the Dark-Light Device, Luigi's flashlight instead emits a rainbow-colored light, which allows Luigi to see objects that are hidden in a manner similar to an ultraviolet lamp. After shining the Dark-Light Device on these objects, Luigi needs to vacuum the Spirit Balls that are revealed so that the objects can become visible again. However, the Dark-Light Device has an energy gauge represented by rainbow-colored meter in the top right corner, and if the Dark-Light Device is used for too long, it overheats. A few upgrades to the gauge can be acquired from Professor E. Gadd by collecting treasure and leveling up. The Dark-Light Device can also reveal Polterpup tracks so Luigi can follow them, Boo trails to follow a Boo, and Toads, coins, or gems trapped in paintings. The Dark-Light Device is also usable on ghosts such as Greenies and Sneakers. Sneakers are revealed when hit by the light, while Greenies start to taunt Luigi. The Dark-Light Device is also required to free Mario from his painting. In the ScareScraper, Spirit Balls do not come out of revealed furniture, and if one Luigi has been cursed, other Luigis can use their Dark-Light Devices on him to remove the curse.
The Dark-Light Device reappears in Luigi's Mansion 3, now as an add-on to the Poltergust G-00. It is used by pressing 
. The Dark-Light Device is used similarly, but it can now be held indefinitely without overheating, as well as reveal purple Spirit Balls that possess certain objects.
