Blue Toad is a Toad who has appeared in many of Mario's adventures and has assisted him in many ways. In many of the earlier appearances he made, Blue Toad appears as a rather generic character who had no real personality. However, the character was slowly built up to be given more personality as seen in his more major roles, such as Super Mario Galaxy. Blue Toad appears as one of the four heroes in New Super Mario Bros. Wii as well.

History

Super Mario series

Super Mario Bros. 2

While technically not an actual appearance of Blue Toad, Toad's sprite in Super Mario Bros. 2 appears in the same color scheme as Blue Toad. This was due to the 3 color limitations of the NES. This mistake was fixed in remakes of the game, such as Super Mario All-Stars.

Super Mario Sunshine

Blue Toad made his true debut in Super Mario Sunshine along with his fellow alternatively colored Toads who had went along with Mario, Princess Peach and Toadsworth on their trip to Isle Delfino. Blue Toad played a very minor role as he just remained in the Delfino Plaza for nearly the whole game just worrying about the Princess who had been kidnapped. However, he is often seen away from the other Toads and can be found near the lighthouse that contains the portal to Gelato Beach. He can also be seen enjoying himself along with the other Toads in the ending credits of the game.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong

Blue Toad made a reappearance in this game as one of the tjree Toad employees who worked in the Toy store creating Mini Mario toys. He was working peacefully until Donkey Kong arrived and had stolen the toys with brute force. Later on, Blue Toad along with the other 2 toads appear at the scene where Donkey Kong had dropped all the Mini Marios and had started laughing at him along with the others. However in his anger, Donkey Kong kidnaps the Toads and climbs up on the top of a building with the 3 in his arms. Fortunately, Mario once again manages to defeat the ape and saves Blue Toad and the other 2 toads.

Super Mario Galaxy

In this game, Blue Toad appears as one of the five members in the Toad Brigade. He was said to have escaped with the 4 other toads and as well Luigi from the Mushroom Kingdom into Space however they were soon separated from Luigi. Eventually, Mario came along and saved the 5 Toads (including Blue Toad) in the Honeyhive Galaxy. In their last appearance in the game, the 5 Toads are revealed to have been promoted to being Royal Guards due to their work of helping Mario.

In the Toad Brigade, Blue Toad was shown to be the smartest of the 5 Toads and had provided Mario with a lot of knowledgeable information about the galaxies. To prove his intelligence, Blue Toad appears wearing glasses in this game and is called 'Smart One'.

A Blue Toad, nicknamed Bucken-Berry by Nintendo developers[1] and Yvan by IGN forum members,[2] appears as the fourth playable character in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Unlike his other appearances, Blue Toad is shown to extremely brave as he joins with the Mario bros on their mission to save Princess Peach from Bowser and his children. He is shown to be able to wear all of the Power Ups that are available in the game, including the new Propeller Suit and Penguin Suit. He is also able to perform certain abilities such as the Ground Pound and the Spin Jump. Strangely, Blue Toad does not appear in this game wearing the thick glasses that he had worn in Super Mario Galaxy.

Mario Baseball series

In Mario Superstar Baseball, Blue Toad appears as a team member who is part of Toad's alternate colorations. In it's sequel Mario Super Sluggers, Blue Toad once again appears as a team member and is an alternate coloration once again of Toad. In the challenge mode, Blue Toad appears guarding a statue for Princess Peach hinting his loyalness and can be unlocked immediately after Peach talks to him.

As a Species

In many of the sports games, Blue Toad appears as a species as well. In the Mario Strikers series, various amounts of Blue Toads appear as team members. In the games like in Mario and Sonic at the Olympics Games series, Blue Toads appear as some of the audience members.

Characteristics

Personality

Ever since his debut appearance to the Mario Series, Blue Toad is often portrayed as to being no different than other members of his species. Due to the fact that he is often shown alongside the companionship of other toads, Blue Toad was forced to be given small and generic roles in most of his appearances. However he does show some key differences such as his knowledge which was first seen in Super Mario Sunshine where he would provide tips to Mario about the history of Isle Delfino (this includes the information about Yoshis once inhabiting the island in large numbers long ago). His intelligence is further proven in Super Mario Galaxy where he provides many tips for Mario. Also in Super Mario Sunshine, Blue Toad appears as a loner as he is often seen isolated from the other toads for unknown reasons for most of the game. In New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Blue Toad is also shown as a courageous character, who is able to venture alongside the Mario bros on their dangerous mission to save Princess Peach
