Toadofsky is a famous Toad composer who works in Melody Bay, a small area connected to Tadpole Pond. During the events of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Toadofsky has "composer's block". He is trying to create a brand new symphony, but doesn't have any inspiration to work from. Unfortunately, if Toadofsky does not finish a masterpiece soon, he will be forced to compose video game music for games starring a blue hedgehog. (This was a reference poking fun at Mario's business rival Sonic the Hedgehog; references such as these were not uncommon in 16-bit era games.) Fortunately, as Mario travels the world, the heroic plumber picks up a few local melodies. If Mario returns to Tadpole Pond, he can offer these melodies to Toadofsky as inspiration. As a reward, Toadofsky will give Mario special membership cards used to purchase amazing items at the Tadpole Pond Item Shop. The great composer also gives Mario the opportunity to compose the last quarter of the symphony himself. Toadofsky, incorrectly called Toadofski, appeared in Mario and the Incredible Rescue. He gives Mario another one of the six Mushrooms and begs Mario to compose him a new song which he does.

The Four Melodies of Toadofsky's Symphony

  • Frogfucius Suite No. Eighteen (learned from reading a poster on Frogfucius' island).
  • The Moleville Blues (learned from Pa Mole in the Moleville Mines).
  • Monstro Town Melody (learned from a Starslap in Monstro Town).
  • Mario himself composes the last quarter of the symphony in Tadpole Pond.

Trivia

  • Toadofsky's name is a pun on "Toad" and the name of one of two Russian composers (either Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky or Boris Tchaikovsky), both of which have the surname Tchaikovsky. It is most likely that his name is derived from that of Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, the more famous of the Tchaikovsky composers.
  • Toad in the Desert of Paper Mario may be based on Toadofsky, in a similar to how the Minister is thought to be based on Super Mario RPG's Chancellor. Both Toadofsky and Toad in the Desert seem to wear powdered wigs, they're both composers, and in a similar manner to how Toadofsky needed actual music, Toad in the Desert sought Lyrics during the events of Paper Mario.
  • His name is a pun of Toad of sky.
  • Toadofsky indirectly refers to Sonic the Hedgehog, and states that he would have to make music for the Sonic series if he couldn't come up with a new masterpiece. Coincidentally, both Mario and Sonic stared in the same game, Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, years later.
