Super Mario-kun (stylized as SUPER MARIO KUN in Super Mario Maker) is a Japanese-published Super Mario manga series written by Yukio Sawada and published by Shogakukan. The manga has been serialized monthly in CoroCoro Comic since November 1990 with the first tankōbon released in July 1991. The series is aimed at children and features the characters and scenarios of various Super Mario games, though with different twists and creative liberties. It also contains crude humor, puns, breaking the fourth wall, nudity, and slapstick violence. There are also a few puzzles (such as mazes and objects hidden in scenes) to be solved throughout the installments.
Starting in August 2014, the Super Mario-kun series was released for the "Bookstore Anywhere" application on Nintendo 3DS in Japan in bundles of ten volumes up to volume 57 for ¥4,400 each. The first set containing volumes one through ten was released on August 27, 2014 the second set on September 24, the third on October 29, and the fourth on November 26.[1]
In December 2014, Soleil Productions began to publish a French localization of the series in its Soleil Manga collection, titled Super Mario: Manga Adventures.[2] A Spanish translation by Planeta DeAgostini under the name Super Mario Aventuras has started to be released since late November 2016.[3]
A "best of" collection titled Super Mario Manga Mania was compiled in September 2017,[4] which was later translated to English by VIZ Media and released on December 8, 2020.[5][6] Another best-of collection was released in April 2023 in the form of Super Mario-kun Special Selection, starting with a remake of the first ever chapter of the manga series.[7]
To celebrate the manga series' 25th anniversary, Mario's Super Mario-kun design was added as a Costume Mario in Super Mario Maker. The costume is unlocked by clearing the "SUPER MARIO KUN 25th Anniversary" Event Course.

Following this, they go through the Mario Zone, facing off against the zone himself (rigged by Wario) and the Three Little Pigheads. The four heroes travel through the worlds of Subcon, defeating Mouser, Tryclyde, Fryguy, and Clawgrip along the way. Birdo dies trying to protect Yoshi, but is quickly replaced with Toad. The final battle against Wart proves itself to be very difficult, as Wart is not sensitive to vegetables anymore and has the ability to molt. Eventually, Wart is defeated through the combined efforts of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Toad, Bowser, Birdo's sisters, little Yoshis, and Yoshi's hunger, but Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach again and the Mario Bros. return to Dinosaur Land to rescue her.
Second part of the Super Mario Land 2 - 6 Golden Coins arc: Mario, Carrot, and Yokkī go through the Pumpkin Zone and, guided by a friendly Boo, defeat the Witch. The pirates attack Mario and Yoshi and, during the fight, Wario gets free and helps the heroes fight the pirates, deciding then to join forces to stop the pirates and steal their treasure: a giant golden statue of Peach. Bowser has won; Mario, Luigi, and Yoshi are back at the start, and Peach's Castle is now the cove of Bowser's minions. ||
| 23 | Third part of the Mario Party arc: Mario, Luigi, Yoshi, Toad, and Wario reach the Bowser's Magma Mountain board, playing other minigames along the way (Bombs Away and Hot Rope Jump). Bowser steals the party's Stars and tries to stop them with a Ztar, but it ends up helping them, being tired of being mistreated by Bowser. To win, Bowser eats all the Stars collected by the heroes, but the Ztar power-ups Mario, who defeats Bowser and obtains the title of Superstar. After celebrating, Bowser takes over Mario's Rainbow Castle, so one last match begins.
The first bonus story is based on Mario Golf: One of the holes is occupied by a Monty Mole family, and Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Yoshi have to fight them. ||
