“In the battle for the best mustache, I'll win, hairs down. Ha ha ha! Bring it on, peach fuzz!”
Chief Chilly, Super Mario 64 DS

Chief Chilly is a large Big Bully made of ice, or possibly a Chill Bully; signifying that Chill Bully is in fact a species and not a notable Bully, and apparently the leader of all Bullies. He first appeared in Super Mario 64 DS, the Nintendo DS remake of Super Mario 64. Out of all the moustached bosses from Super Mario 64 DS, Chief Chilly takes greatest pride about his moustache. Bowser hired him to trap the heroes of the game along with his other minions.

History

Super Mario series

Super Mario 64 DS

Before Yoshi could realize what happened in Princess Peach's Castle, Chief Chilly, along with Bowser, Goomboss, and Big Boo (presumably King Boo), ambushed Mario, Luigi, and Wario, which Chief Chilly was put under the control of Wario. Luigi came to Wario's rescue and was forced to battle the monstrosity. Despite being the weakest of the three mustached heroes, he managed to beat him and push Chief Chilly off the iceberg three times and the key was given to Luigi at last. Chief Chilly disappears after the battle to restyle his mustache and to get a rematch next time. During his first battle, it gets a little tricky; as every time he's pushed in the water, he will cut up the arena making it smaller. After taking the second damage, he'll rock the iceberg and, if pushed to the edge, he will keep his balance for a little before going back to the middle. It's best for the player to smash him while he's slipping.

Mario Kart DS

In Mario Kart DS, Luigi must battle Chief Chilly in Level 6 of Mission Mode. Like the battle with Big Bully, Luigi must push Chief Chilly off his platform and into the water. However, Chief Chilly must be pushed off three times instead of one, and becomes stronger and trickier after each time he is pushed off. Indeed, after the second time he falls in the water, Chief Chilly will be able to Jump over Luigi's boost attacks. To defeat him, Luigi had to attack Chief Chilly from the side, where the boss couldn't see him, or while the Bully boss is charging at him, which will knock both of them back, or if right nearby him. Chief Chilly is Faster, stronger, and slightly more intellegent than Big Bully in this game.

Trivia

  • Although Yoshi normally can't face Chief Chilly in Super Mario 64 DS, if the player uses a glitch to enter the mirror and get into Chief Chilly Challenge, then Yoshi can face and defeat the Chill Bully (although Yoshi can't punch or kick, ground pounds still work against him). It's also worthy to note that Chief Chilly has his own text when facing Yoshi and when being defeated by him. Please see the Super Mario 64 DS quotes for more info.
  • Bestovius also has a powerful love of his mustache, even going so far as to insult Mario's mustache as "inferior whiskers"
