Battle glitches
8 Players with 1 controller glitch
This glitch works on 8 Player Smash and has Player 1 control more than one fighter at a time, from two to all eight fighters. The glitch requires 1-7 amiibo and can be done with multiple controllers. The player should assign their controller to the first slot, then set the slot to display none. The player should desync the controller, then scan an amiibo with the gamepad. The player should sync the controller back. They will have control of the second slot. The steps can be repeated until 7 slots have amiibo and the eighth slot is occupied by the player. The player should then go to change the rules. After they exit, they will have control over multiple cursors, and can select characters from that point.

Different taunt
This glitch can only be done with R.O.B. while Lucas or Ness uses PK Freeze. The player should hold Smash Attack Down before triggering the PK Freeze hit. The color of the ice will appear slightly different depending on the color palette of R.O.B. This glitch was found in the 1.1.2 patch.

Freezing quit
Hitbox error
If the player quits the game using the Home button and chooses to return to the Wii U Menu, the text "Wii U Menu sometimes remains on screen and the Wii U Menu never appears, forcing the player to turn off the Wii U with the power button.
Sometimes there is a Hitbox error when the player is attacking another. It seems common with an example of Pikachu's up special, as the player will sometimes attack where Pikachu was about half a second ago, and Pikachu will be damaged.

Yoshi Egg Inside Nabbit
Infinite Mega Man ladder glitch
The player must play as Mega Man, with the opponent also being Mega Man. The two Mega Man must jump on each others Rush Coil. If done correctly, they will be able to jump up to the top of the screen without getting KO'd.
In the Mushroom Kingdom U stage, if Yoshi loses his last stock he can get stuck inside of Nabbit. The egg will stay inside of Nabbit until he leaves the stage. This glitch is still not fixed yet in the patch.

Bowser Jr. Teleport
Kirby's inhale glitch
This happens on the Battlefield stage. If Bowser Jr. uses his up special and gets KO'd shortly after the Junior Clown Car respawns, he will start teleporting when moving and dodging, and his moveset will be more awkward to use.
The player must go to Training Mode, and play as Kirby. Once in a fight, turn the damage up to 999% and inhale the opponent. Then, turn the damage down to 0% and spit the opponent out. The opponent will be spit out much faster then normal.

Lucas's PK Freeze outside of stage glitch
This glitch only works on Lucas when he performs PK Freeze outside of the stage. The glitch will freeze Lucas in his PK Freeze pose. This glitch was not fixed  in the patch and appears in the Nintendo 3DS version as well.

Hitbox error
Pellet glitch
Sometimes there is a Hitbox error when the player is attacking another. It seems common with an example of Pikachu's up special, as the player will sometimes attack where Pikachu was about half a second ago, and Pikachu will be damaged.
This glitch is for Pac-Man only. The player first needs to have the Fire Hydrant active to use this glitch. Using Pac-Man's down special again while the Fire Hydrant is active will cause nothing to happen, but if Pac-Man uses his side special right after the down special animation is finished, the Power Pellet will be able to move more freely.

Stickmin glitch
The player must play as Olimar for this glitch. The player must then throw one Pikmin in the air, and throw a second one right before touching the ground. If done correctly, the second Pikmin will be stuck to Olimar's hand. This will make many of Olimar's attacks more powerful. The Pikmin can be detached from Olimar by using any aerial attacks, side special or up special.

Two Pac-Men doing Trampoline not getting KO'ed off screen glitch
Super Pac-Man glitch
This glitch works when two players select Pac-Man in the same team. The glitch only appears if the two Pac-Men use the Trampoline special move together. it will not trigger both of the Pac-Mans to get Ko'ed off the screen, but the trick to get rid of KO two Pac-Mans performing the same glitch by using R.O.B. using the Gyro special move hit one of them in the air. This glitch counted as cheating through playing on battle with someone in team battle like in Online Multiplayer and Smash Mode.
The player must play as Pac-Man for this glitch. Use Pac-Man's side special and hold in any direction, and Pac-Man will fly in the chosen direction. If the player runs, jumps, turns around, get's hit, or uses Pac-Man's up special, the glitch will be disabled for the rest of the match.

This is a list of glitches in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Unless otherwise noted, all names are conjectural.

After they exit, they will have control over multiple cursors, and can select characters from that point.[1][2]

Coal Black Colored PK Freeze

Screenshot of Ness PK Freezed R.O.B. with a glitched Black Ice from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
Ness activates the Coal Black PK Freeze glitch, trapping R.O.B. inside

This glitch can only be done with R.O.B. while Lucas or Ness uses PK Freeze. The player should hold Smash Attack Down before triggering the PK Freeze hit. The color of the ice will appear slightly different depending on the color palette of R.O.B. This glitch was found in the 1.1.2 patch.[3][4]

Floating Yoshi Egg glitch

In the Mushroom Kingdom U stage, if Yoshi loses his last stock during the stage transformation he can get stuck in a floating egg. When the stage transforms again it will disappear. The details of this glitch are still unknown.[5][dead link]

Hitbox error

Sometimes there is a Hitbox error when the player is attacking another. It seems common with an example of Pikachu's up special, as the player will sometimes attack where Pikachu was about half a second ago, and Pikachu will be damaged.

Infinite Mega Man ladder glitch

The player must play as Mega Man, with the opponent also being Mega Man. The two Mega Man must jump on each others Rush Coil. If done correctly, they will be able to jump up to the top of the screen without getting KO'd.[6]

Kirby's inhale glitch

The player must go to Training Mode, and play as Kirby. Once in a fight, turn the damage up to 999% and inhale the opponent. Then, turn the damage down to 0% and spit the opponent out. The opponent will be spit out much faster then normal.[7]

Lucas's PK Freeze outside of stage glitch

Lucas' PK Freeze glitch performing outside of the stage from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
Lucas uses PK Freeze outside of the stage

This glitch only works on Lucas when he performs PK Freeze outside of the stage. The glitch will freeze Lucas in his PK Freeze pose.[8]

Pellet glitch

This glitch is for Pac-Man only. The player first needs to have the Fire Hydrant active to use this glitch. Using Pac-Man's down special again while the Fire Hydrant is active will cause nothing to happen, but if Pac-Man uses his side special right after the down special animation is finished, the Power Pellet will be able to move more freely.[9]

The Pikmin can be detached from Olimar by using any aerial attacks, side special or up special.[10]

Super Pac-Man glitch

The player must play as Pac-Man for this glitch. Use Pac-Man's side special and hold in any direction, and Pac-Man will fly in the chosen direction. If the player runs, jumps, turns around, get's hit, or uses Pac-Man's up special, the glitch will be disabled for the rest of the match.[9]

Toad Counter Attack and Franklin Badge glitch

The Toad glitch, affecting Ness to 212%, from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
Ness activates the Toad Glitch while Peach equipped the Franklin Badge and Ness getting a 212% damage

This glitch that works on Ness and Peach. The glitch only works if Peach has equipped the Franklin Badge and uses a counter attack with Toad on Ness with the Side Smash Attack. The glitch will cause Toad to produce more spores, which can cause Ness to be KO'd with one hit.[11]

Unprotected Wario glitch

When Wario is invincible with the Super Star, and his bike explodes while riding it, Wario will still take damage.[12]

Miscellaneous glitches

Conquest Mode sound glitch

If the player is scrolling through results in Conquest Mode as soon as the current conquest is finished, the winner will be revealed while the sound from the results will continue.[13]

Different taunt glitch

During any game when the side taunt is performed, there is a chance it will do the down taunt instead. This currently only happens on the GamePad.

Final Smash transformation glitch

Lucario appears in the Victory Screen in the glitch from Super Smash Bros. for Wii U
Lucario, appearing in the Victory Screen during the glitch

This glitch only works on Bowser, Wario, Lucario, and Little Mac. While using their Final Smash, which causes them to transform into Giga Bowser, Wario-Man, Mega Lucario, and Giga Mac, the characters will appear during the Victory Screen despite having not won. This glitch only works by having them transform right before the end of a Time Battle. The glitch requires to have the Smash Ball broken before the Announcer says "Time".[14]

Freezing quit glitch

If the player quits the game using the Home button and chooses to return to the Wii U Menu, the text "Wii U Menu" sometimes remains on screen and the Wii U Menu never appears, forcing the player to turn off the Wii U with the power button.

Jigglypuff giant smoke glitch

The player must go into Training Mode as Jigglypuff and begin using its Final Smash, Puff Up. Near the end of it, they must turn the damage up to 999%. If done correctly, once Jigglypuff goes back to normal size, the smoke stays giant.

Kirby open mouth glitch

Sometimes, when Kirby is attacked and starts floating up in the air, his mouth will stay open. This glitch only seems to happen when certain characters attack Kirby.[13]

Lylat cruise overlap glitch

The main ship overlapping the Arwing

Due to the way the surrounding Arwing ships are placed in the background of the Lylat Cruise stage, they can appear gigantic behind the main ship if the camera is positioned correctly, resulting in an optical illusion.

Out of bounds camera glitch

The player has to enter Training Mode as Jigglypuff. The player can pick any stage for this glitch. The camera must also be zoomed in. Once that is done, the player must grab a Smash Ball, float until they are no longer onscreen, and use Puff Up. The camera will zoom out much more then intended, letting the player see things they are not normally allowed to see.[15]

Terrain glitches

Going ghost glitch

The player needs to play as Pac-Man for this glitch. When Pac-Man is on a wall they can wall jump off of, they should do a wall jump and quickly use the Trampoline up special. About half the characters in the game can then jump on the Trampoline and go through the stage. Pac-Man himself can only go through the stage using another Pac-Man's Trampoline, and not his own. The other characters that can do this glitch are Luigi, Yoshi, Bowser Jr., Wario, Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Little Mac, Ganondorf, Samus, Palutena, Ike, Robin, Kirby, King Dedede, Charizard, Lucario, Jigglypuff, R.O.B., Ness, Captain Falcon, Villager, Shulk, Mega Man, Mewtwo, Lucas, Roy, Ryu, Cloud Strife, Corrin, and the Mii Fighters.[9]

Fixed Glitches

Bowser Jr. teleport glitch

The player must play as Bowser Jr. on Battlefield. The player has to use Bowser Jr.'s up special near the bottom right side of the stage, and get KO'd by an opponent. When Bowser Jr. respawns, he will start teleporting when moving and dodging, and his moveset will be more awkard to use.[16][17]

Diddy Kong immune grab glitch

The player must play as Diddy Kong, and by holding the shield, when the opponent hits them, they must press up multiple times, let go of the shield button, and then allow Diddy Kong to be hit twice. This makes Diddy Kong immune from a grabbing attack (as well as being immune from other moves such Wario's Chomp, Kirby's & King Dedede's Inhale, and Yoshi's Tongue). The glitch disappears if Diddy Kong is KO'd. This glitch first appeared in the 1.1.1 patch, but was fixed in the 1.1.2 patch.[18]

Drifting Pac-Man glitch

In a match, while playing as Pac-Man, if one pauses the match while he's charging his Side Smash, Pac-Man starts drifting in a random direction, even passing through parts of the stage. However, unpausing the match puts Pac-Man back in his position as if nothing happened.[19]

This glitch was fixed in version 1.0.1 of the game.

Infinite grab glitch

The player must play as Corrin and fight against either Zero Suit Samus or Sheik. The player must then grab the opponent near the edge of the stage. If done correctly, the opponent will be trapped in an infinite grab they cannot escape from. Trying to damage the opponent will let them escape, and sometimes the glitch will just not work. Doing it online will get the player disconnected for idling.[20]

This glitch was fixed in version 1.1.5 of the game.

Infinite Pac-Man ladder glitch

The player must play in Group mode with Team Battle on, and both players playing as Pac-Man on the same team. The two Pac-Man must then use their Trampoline move together, bouncing on each-others Trampoline. If done correctly, both players reach the top of the screen, without getting KO'd.[21]

The glitch can be countered by using R.O.B. if the player flies up to the bouncing Pac-Man and throws their Gyro.[22] It is also considered cheating in Online Multiplayer and Smash Mode.

Pac-Man drop through the stage glitch

When playing as Pac-Man, make a Trampoline and leave it. If an opponent tries to jump on that Trampoline as soon as Pac-Man creates a new one, they will fall through the stage.[23]

This glitch was fixed in version 1.0.9 of the game.

"The Force" grab glitch

On the Town and City stage, when the player is on a moving platform and grabs another character on a different moving platform, the opponent moves away, but the player is still grabbing them. The player can still use their grab attack but they will be hitting nothing. Throwing the grabbed character, however, still works.[24]

The Great Cave Offensive cannon glitch

If the player plays on The Great Cave Offensive stage, goes into the cannon at the bottom of the stage, and tries to shoot themselves at the sides of the cannon, they may be able to go through the lava, inside the stage, and get back on it.[25]

This glitch was fixed in version 1.1.1 of the game.

Victory T-pose glitch

This glitch can only be performed if a player presses the Home Button when the battle is over. During the "Game" screen, for a split second, the Victory Pose will appear as a T-Pose. The 1.1.0 patch fixed the glitch by adding the No Home Menu Icon during the "Game" screen.[26]

Yoshi Egg inside Nabbit glitch

In the Mushroom Kingdom U stage, if Yoshi loses his last stock he can get stuck inside of Nabbit. The egg will stay inside of Nabbit until he leaves the stage.[27][dead link]
