- “This track used to sound like a knock-off version of a Chopin-esque waltz. It was meant to be a piano solo at first, but Kameoka, the arranger for this track, added strings and it sounded amazing! Now it ends on a high note!”
- —Yoko Shimomura, Liner notes in Super Mario RPG Original Sound Box
In the Nintendo Switch remake of Super Mario RPG, an orchestral arrangement of "Elegy" plays for the same purpose as in the original game. If the music is set to the "Classic" setting, the original version of the theme will play instead. The new orchestral arrangement is also included in the official albums Super Mario RPG Original Soundtrack, Super Mario RPG Original Sound Box, and Super Mario RPG Original Sound Vinyl Box.
Tetris 99[edit]
In Tetris 99, the arrangement of "Elegy" from the Nintendo Switch remake of Super Mario RPG plays in the losing results screen while the Super Mario RPG theme is in use.
