“For this boss theme, I wanted to conjure up the image of a powerfully wicked foe who's endearing at the same time. Battle themes for this soundtrack feature the 5+ Chain versions of the tracks for the second loop, which are flashier than the originals.”
Yoko Shimomura, Liner notes in Super Mario RPG Original Sound Box

In the Nintendo Switch remake of Super Mario RPG, an orchestral arrangement of "Battling Strongish Monsters" plays for the same purpose as in the original game. Additional percussion is added to the instrumentation whenever the Chain reaches five. If the music is set to the "Classic" setting, the original version of the theme will play instead. The new orchestral arrangement is also included in the official albums Super Mario RPG Original Soundtrack, Super Mario RPG Original Sound Box, and Super Mario RPG Original Sound Vinyl Box. In the Super Mario RPG Original Sound Box album, the additional percussion from the Chain remix is added to the instrumentation for the second loop of the theme.

Tetris 99[edit]

In Tetris 99, the arrangement of "Battling Strongish Monsters" from the Nintendo Switch remake of Super Mario RPG plays when there are 50 to 11 players remaining while the Super Mario RPG theme is in use.
