Boshi, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars

Boshi is a lone Blue Yoshi and the rival of Yoshi. Like many other Yoshis, Boshi can speak only the Yoshi language, having a deeper voice than most others. His appearance is distinct from the other Yoshis in that he wears sunglasses, a spiked collar, and toeless shoes, with him being the only known Yoshi not to wear shoes that cover his feet. He is also the only known Yoshi to have fangs and only two plates on the back of his head, which are longer and sharper. He and several other Yoshis live on Yo'ster Isle, home of the Mushroom Derby races. After winning a Mushroom Derby race, he declared himself leader of the Yoshis and canceled the derby so he could be champion for eternity.

In Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Mario travels to Yo'ster Isle and is informed of Boshi's reign by Yoshi. Yoshi also reveals that Boshi loves Yoshi Cookies and has a friend loan him some cookies so he and Mario can confront Boshi. Tempted by the cookies, Boshi agrees to a one-on-one race.

If Yoshi loses the race, Boshi stays and races again for more cookies. If Yoshi wins the race, he is presumed to be the new boss of the isle, but he declines the role, saying he just wants to race. Boshi then agrees to participate in fair competition going forward.

The ending cinematic of this game shows Boshi comforting Croco after losing a race to Yoshi, as both walk away from the racetrack.

In the Nintendo Switch remake, Boshi received some minor design changes: His fangs are gone, and the toeless shoes have been reduced to anklets, leaving his heels uncovered. Unlike the other Yoshis, who have the modern shell and eye designs, Boshi retains the old-style saddle-shaped shell and lazy eyes.
