The top of the website

gatewaygalaxy.com is a mock-travel website launched in 2026 to promote The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. To launch the website, the user must click on a Launch Star. The website features information about various locations in the film, in addition to wallpapers that the user can download. Some of this information is provided by R.O.B., who is available to ask questions to in the form of a chatbot-type interface on the right side of the screen. The site also features a clock that shows the current time, which is next to a rotating graphic of a Shine Sprite, which turns into a 3-Up Moon during nighttime. Each section that the user opens can be dragged around the screen. In addition, the site also features a unique clip from the film featuring R.O.B.

Sections[edit]

Boarding Times[edit]

This section contains details akin to an airport on flights leaving Gateway Galaxy. When the site launched, flights to the Mushroom Kingdom, Honeyhive Galaxy, Fossil Falls, and Comet Observatory were boarding, while flights to Tostarena Town and Drip Drop Galaxy were delayed. All flights had been canceled to Space Junk Galaxy. On April 1, 2026, this was modified so that all flights were boarding; clicking on Tostarena Town opened a section on the galaxy in the same manner as the previous three galaxies, clicking on Drip Drop Galaxy played a short promotional video of Princess Peach and Toad using a Launch Star and flying past the planet, and clicking on Space Junk Galaxy takes the player to the top of the screen.

Three different airlines are shown to be providing flights: Galaxy Air, Boomerang Bros. International Airlines, and Sunshine Airline.

Image captions are taken from their respective alt texts from the website

Galactic Passport[edit]

Within this section, users can obtain a Galactic Passport by purchasing a ticket to see the film and putting in the confirmation code provided with the purchase. Users can store their Galactic Passport in their mobile wallet of choice (with the options to store it being either Apple Wallet or Google Wallet). The section also states that users can "Secure passage" by completing their ticket purchase (if they currently don't have their passport) and obtaining their Galactic Passport. Clicking the "Secure passage" button sends the user to thesupermariogalaxymovie.com. If the user already has a Galactic Passport, they can access it by inputting their 12-digit identification number.

Traveler Notices[edit]

This sections contains two notices. The first is a missing-person poster for Princess Rosalina, stating that she was last seen at the Comet Observatory and that visitors with information should report said information to Gateway Galaxy personnel. The poster is marked as a "GTW News Flash Report", with "GTW" presumably being short for "Gateway". In addition, the aforementioned clip featuring R.O.B. can be played by selecting a second tab available within the section, which is emblazoned with a play button.

On April 1, 2026, the second notice was added, which functions as a theft advisory and warns visitors about the presence of Ukiki. The notice states that visitors should ensure that their personal belongings are secured, and that visitors should remain aware of their surroundings.

This section reuses a quote originally said by Princess Peach in the first film, this being "There's a huge universe out there, with a lot of galaxies." The section also features links to three social media channels for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, these being Instagram, X, and TikTok. Each link is available via a unique icon for the service, which is styled like the icons for the other sections on the site.

Watch in Theaters[edit]

This section simply takes users directly to the official website for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, thesupermariogalaxymovie.com. The icon for this section on the website is placed further below the other icons, creating a space between the other sections and this one

Location descriptions[edit]

If the user clicks on the names of most of the locations in the Boarding Times section, or if the user clicks on certain pipes on the main screen, they can view descriptions of select locations appearing in the film. The user may also download wallpapers available from this section.

Slot machine[edit]

If the player scrolls to the bottom of the screen, a glitched effect will play and the camera will scroll over a series of Brick Blocks (representing the glitched wall Princess Peach and Toad step through to reach the casino), eventually stopping at a slot machine in the casino owned by Wart. When the site launched, this slot machine was simply a static image, as it featured a sign reading "Closed for maintenance". On April 1, 2026, this static image was replaced with a functional slot machine. Upon clicking on the lever, the machine will always land on three of a kind of a certain item. A different effect is displayed for each item. These effects are as follows:

  • If the player gets three Ice Flowers, the screen will be frozen in ice.
  • If the player gets three Super Mushrooms, both the machine and the player's cursor will temporarily grow in size.
  • If the player gets three Ninjis, multiple Ninjis will fall down from the top of the screen.
  • If the player gets three Yoshi's Eggs, a short video will play of Yoshi eating an Octoguy and laying an egg, followed by eating the camera and laying an egg.
  • If the player gets three coins, multiple stacks of coins will ascend from the bottom of the screen.
  • If the player gets three Fire Flowers, the perimeter of the screen will catch fire.

Notes[edit]

  • If the user scrolls down further than the boundaries of the site appear to allow, a glitch effect will be shown, and the user will be able scroll past some Brick Blocks to a still image of the casino owned by Wart, which is marked "Closed for maintenance". R.O.B. will say that this route was "not intended" and that the user should proceed with caution. A button is provided for the user to go back to the main portion of the site. Arrangements of Super Mario Bros. 2's "Underground BGM" and "Jump Up, Super Star!" play in the background.
  • While using the website, the user's mouse cursor is replaced with the Star Pointer.
  • Text is shown scrolling at the bottom of the site in an unreadable language. If the user hovers over certain sections of this, they will glitch and turn into readable words. R.O.B. will say "If you see something, say something." If the user types the word into the text box below, R.O.B. will say "Access granted," then a downloadable image of one of Bowser's paintings from the movie will appear.
  • If the user clicks on the Gateway Galaxy logo, the website will scroll upwards to show a silhouette of Planet Bowser with comets flying in the background. This can also be seen by scrolling up from the main area of the website. One of the comets can be clicked on to open a window with the caption "Something is hidden among the stars." The window then plays a 10 second promotional video previously released on the movie's social media accounts. The video shows a scene of a group of Lumas loudly having a pillow fight in the Comet Observatory library, before zooming in on a door to show Rosalina check in on the Lumas. The camera moves back to show all the Lumas pretending to sleep. Rosalina chuckles and leaves, and the Lumas then continue the pillow fight.
  • Initially, if the user were to scroll to the top of the screen, a button would appear in R.O.B.'s chat reading "Take me back.", which would automatically take the user back to the website's main area. However, this button has since changed to read "Book now" as Planet Bowser becomes visible. Initially, the "Book now" button functioned identically to the "Take me back." button, though, as of April 1, 2026, the button now brings the user to thesupermariogalaxymovie.com.
  • The website's code states that the Unfinished Novel belongs to Toad, as the novel is referred to as "toadsNovel" in the code.[8] This is confirmed by Toad in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Errors[edit]

  • In the Italian version, "Drip Drop" in the name of Drip Drop Galaxy is left untranslated (Galassia Drip Drop), instead of being called Galassia Lacrima ("Teardrop Galaxy") like in the game.
