Jungle Hijinxs is the first level of Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Country Returns. It is located within the Kongo Jungle in Donkey Kong Country, and within the Jungle area in Donkey Kong Country Returns.

In Donkey Kong Country, the level starts off outside Donkey Kong's tree house. If the player turns back when beginning the level, they can enter the house for a Extra Life Balloon, or enter the cave beneath Donkey Kong's house to check on his Banana Hoard - where he can find his bananas gone (unless the player has finished the game, in which case his bananas are piled up in the cave). The level plays host to simple enemies: Gnawties, Kritters, Klumps, and a single Necky. It is also where the Animal Buddy, Rambi can be used for the first time. It is a simple level with very few pitfalls. The Kongs can also run along the treetops to search for hidden items. As the Kongs come to the end of this level, it gets dark and becomes night time.
Jungle Hijinxs appears in the most recent addition to the Donkey Kong Country series, Donkey Kong Country Returns. Here, one can enter Donkey Kong's treehouse to find an Extra Life Balloon and a TV that can be turned on with a Ground Pound to reveal the game's title screen on it. Similar to the Jungle Hijinxs from the first Donkey Kong Country, this stage is rather basic, with very few pits. However, the level does feature some new enemies, such as Screaming Pillars, Frogoons, Tiki Goons, Awks, and Rawks. The Kongs can also enter the background of a level for the first time here by using an Auto Fire Barrel.

The level starts when Donkey Kong shoots out of his treehouse and then lands onto the ground. If he enters his Banana Hoard, he finds it empty, while if he enters his treehouse found higher up, he can nab an Extra Life Balloon to gain an extra life along the way. Several trees also stand across from the house's entrance that the heroes can hop along to reach several more Extra Life Balloons. He must continue a few steps to encounter a Gnawty and Diddy Kong stuck in a DK Barrel on whom he must free. After this, the Kongs must continue along to a raised piece of land with a Kritter on it and a Gnawty underneath it so they can obtain the letter K of the K-O-N-G Letters. Afterwards, the Kongs encounter two Kritters on two raised piece of land and two Klumps, whom they must defeat to continue along so they can reach the Star Barrel and the letter O next to it.
Next, the Kongs come past another DK Barrel and the letter O to encounter a Necky, who shoots nuts at them as a weapon and along the way. The foe stands on a raised area of land with a few bananas and an Animal Token of Expresso on it. They can hop onto Rambi, fond in his crate nearby, who helps them defeat the three Gnawties in their path and find the letter N just ahead. Next, Rambi and the Kongs can either enter a Bonus Level to instantly gain the letter G upon exiting it, or hop onto some ledges acting as stairs so they can climb and jump onto the tree holding the letter G. The Kongs and Rambi can fall down from the treetops to break a barrier to find another Bonus Level which they can enter. They can either enter it to continue along if they finish it, or continue down the path, defeating a Klump, hopping over a ledge, and then going to the level's exit on the way, where Rambi stays. The exit then allows the Kongs to move into the next level.

The level begins with Donkey and Diddy exiting their treehouse after defeating the Kalimba Tiki. If they travel forward along the sandy pathway, they head into a deeper part of the jungle, where they meet an Awk near a stone block that they can break. A dandelion and three more Awks follow the stone cube. Trees that the primates can stand on are above them, and one of the trees has the letter K on it. Blocks are located after the tree holding the letter K. A Tiki Goon is between a pair of blocks and a single one. The heroes reach a trio of Screaming Pillars along the way; the third pillar has a stone block on top of it the quickly falls when it is startled. ====K-O-N-G Letters====
*K: The letter K is on the first ledge where the first Kritter is located.
*O: The letter O is found next to the Star Barrel found in the level.
*N: The letter N is near the Rambi Crate next to a group of three Gnawties.
*G: This letter is automatically obtained when completing the first Bonus Level. It is on the treetops after the last three Kritters in the level.
Bonus Levels
*After the letter N is obtained, the heroes must walk to a nearby wall to the right of them and break through it with Rambi. After the wall breaks open, an entryway is revealed, which the group must go in. They then end up in a Bonus Level, where they may collect as many bananas as possible scattered around. At the end of the cave, the Kongs and Rambi must walk into the opening to exit the Bonus Level.
*When the heroes exit the first Bonus Level, they can break open a wall below the treetops to create an opening that they must enter to get in the Bonus Level. Here, the heroes must hit a few barrels to stop the pictures of Animal Tokens displayed on them. If they can match the images on all of the barrels, they win the token viewed on the barrels, and then exit the stage. If they lose, they are forced out of the stage with nothing.
Warp Barrel
*When the primates begin the level, they should climb to the treetops, heading to the fourth tree in the area. If they drop off of the right side of it, they land in a Warp Barrel that takes them in front of the entrance to the second Bonus Level just before a sign indicating that the level is almost over. This warp can only be found in the Game Boy Advance version of the game.
Photographs (Game Boy Advance version only)
*The game's first photograph is located in Donkey Kong's Treehouse, found on top of the ledge that Donkey Kong lands in front of at the beginning of the level. When the ape reaches the house, he can run behind a large bunch of bananas to discover the hidden photograph, giving the Kongs a picture of the game's title screen in their scrapbook.
*The Kongs run into the photograph as they run through the first Bonus Level. The photograph gives them an image of Donkey Kong sitting on Rambi for the scrapbook.

Overview

Donkey Kong Country Returns

After the duo passes a lone Banana Bunch, they come up to a hill. As they cross it, a flying ship with a Tiki foe on it appears in the background.

Donkey Kong bounces on a large, red flower.

However, it soon flies away, leaving the Kongs unharmed. A pair of Awks and three plants that contain items follow the bridge. A floor tile nearby here has a hidden area under it, which contains some collectibles. Donkey and Diddy can soon find two Frogoons around a raised area of land with a large, bouncy flower next to it in a slightly lower area. When the heroes bounce on this, two giant statues to the left and right of them shoot out many bananas. After passing another raised area of land with a Frogoon on it, the Kongs come along a path leading to an Awk and a series of three platforms. Two of the platforms are placed in the air with a gap between them, and another is located directly above the same gap. Bananas and a Tiki Goon are also on the platforms, and the letter O is in the gap. The Tutorial Pig and the first checkpoint wait immediately after these platforms.

Another raised area of land follows a DK Barrel in this area. Two Awks march near a gap full of spikes ahead. Eventually, Donkey and Diddy reach a giant button that makes a new area appear in the background if pounded on several times. Once they shoot to the background with the Barrel Cannon that appears, they land on top of some tall, pillar-like platforms that are pushed downwards when hit. Awks are on some of these pillars, and they are followed by two additionally Awks in a flat area of land. Four platforms are attached to a solid wall above here. The first of these platforms holds the letter N, while the second carries a heart. If they climb up all of the platforms, they can reach a Barrel Cannon that shoots them towards many Auto Fire Barrels in the air. The barrels shoot them through the air and then onto solid ground again, where a barrel and a block can be found. A raised area is after the block with two Tiki Goons on it. A heart and another stone cube is located at the end of the raised land, which is followed by a bridge with some Awks on it. Awks and Rawks march along the pathway ahead, trying to attack the primates. Several stone structures are placed above all of these foes, and they lead to the letter G and even a Puzzle Piece. Two large, red flowers can be seen ahead. If they Kongs bounce from the second flower, they can reach the level's Slot Machine Barrel; hitting this barrel makes the level complete.

Hidden Collectibles and Objects

Donkey Kong Country Returns

K-O-N-G Letters

 • K: When the heroes reach a trio of Awks near the beginning of the level, they can find the letter K on a treetop. They must jump from a stone block to reach it.
 • O: The letter O is in the last abyss before the checkpoint. They must roll-jump to grab it safely. In 2-Player Mode, a Kong can instead jump into the abyss to get it.
 • N: The letter N is on the first platform in the background area of the level that the primates can use to climb up to the next Barrel Cannon.
 • G: The primates should bounce on a Rawk near the end of the level to reach a high area of platforms. The letter G is high in the air after the last platform that they can jump to in order to grab.

Puzzle Pieces

File:JungleHijinxDKCR165.PNG
The primates begin a Bonus Level.
 1. Immediately at the start of the level, the Kongs should head backwards into their empty Banana Hoard to find a Puzzle Piece.
 2. The Kongs should head left fro the letter K along the treetops to reach a platform with a dandelion on it. If they blow on the flower, a Puzzle Piece appears.
 3. The primates should pound on the remains of the last Screaming Pillar in the level to release a Puzzle Piece.
 4. The heroes should pound on a large plant shortly after a Tiki enemy appears in the background in a flying ship. When they do so, a Puzzle Piece is revealed.
 5. When the duo jumps on the first bouncy, red flower in the level, statues nearby shoot bananas across the air. If they collect all of these bananas, a Puzzle Piece appears.
 6. As soon as the primates reach the background area in the level, they should roll-jump over the abyss to the left to get on a small platform with a dandelion on it. If they blow on the plant, a Puzzle Piece appears.
 7. Shortly after the duo exits the background area of the level, they can find a raised area of land with two Tiki Goons on it. If they pound on the stone tilt in the middle of here, they fall into the hidden Bonus Level, where they must shoot through a Barrel Cannon to collect fifty-seven bananas, two Banana Coins, and an Extra Life Balloon. If they collect everything within thirty seconds, a Puzzle Piece appears.
 8. When the heroes reach the Rawk enemies near the end of the level, they should bounce on one of them to reach some raised platforms. If they head left on these, they come up to a platform with a Puzzle Piece above it.
 9. At the end of the level, Donkey and Diddy should ignore the Slot Machine Barrel and head into the wall to the right, where they can enter a hidden alcove with the ninth and final Puzzle Piece in it.
