The Reset Rocket is a cyan rocketship with a pink nosecone that acts as a full-canvas clearing tool in Mario Paint, Mario Artist: Paint Studio, and the Super Mario Maker series. In the Super Mario Maker games, it is often seen alongside Undodog, who stands on the rocket's side in order to ride it.

History[edit]

Mario Paint[edit]

The rocket erasing the canvas

In Mario Paint, a rocket is one of several canvas clearing animation options. When the rocketship button within the eraser menu is pressed, a rocket appears from the bottom of the canvas shooting upwards, blanking out every row it passes.

Mario Artist: Paint Studio[edit]

Much like Mario Paint, Mario Artist: Paint Studio includes the rocket as one of several canvas-erasing options. It functions exactly as it does in its predecessor, as pressing the rocketship button makes a rocket appear at the bottom of the canvas launching upwards, erasing every row of the canvas as it rises.

Wii[edit]

In the Wii's Photo Channel, pressing the "Undo all" button in doodle mode makes a rocket appear from the bottom of the screen and erase the player's additions to the photo as it rises. This rocket has a different appearance, being black and white and more bulbous.

WarioWare: D.I.Y.[edit]

The rocket erase animation

In WarioWare: D.I.Y., the graphics editor in the Super MakerMatic 21 features the rocket as an erase animation. Like before, a rocket flies up from the bottom of the screen and erases every row on the canvas as it passes. Unlike previous games, the erase process can be halted.

Super Mario Maker series[edit]

In Super Mario Maker, Super Mario Maker for Nintendo 3DS, and Super Mario Maker 2, the Reset Rocket is now the sole means of clearing the entire canvas. If the Reset Rocket button in the Course Maker is held down, a 3-second countdown similar to those used in rocket launches begins. Once it completes, the rocket shoots out from the button and wipes the screen from the bottom to the top. It erases all course parts and sound effects, deletes the sub-area if it exists, sets the player's position to the starting Arrow Sign, and resets the course's width, timer, autoscroll speed, and clear conditions to default if applicable. The Reset Rocket does not affect the game style or course theme.

Super Mario Maker[edit]

Outside of its utility in Super Mario Maker's Course Maker, the Reset Rocket appears briefly after completing 10 Mario Challenge or 100 Mario Challenge. After Mario hits the "TO BE CONTINUED" text, Undodog follows after him, riding a Reset Rocket. Pressing the letter "A" in "MAKER" on the game's title screen also causes it to begin a countdown before launching up and wrapping around from the bottom of the screen, much like the Reset Rocket. Once the "A" returns to the logo, all items and enemies in the title screen will suddenly vanish. When wearing the Undodog costume, Undodog will appear to ride a Reset Rocket when running at top speed.

Super Mario Maker 2[edit]

In Super Mario Maker 2, the Reset Rocket plays a significant part in the game's story mode. In the mode's opening cutscene, a Reset Rocket button is discovered just after construction on Peach's Castle is completed. Undodog presses the button, causing a Reset Rocket to appear and completely destroy the castle. In the story mode's final cutscene, a Reset Rocket button is again left in front of the castle just after being finished, which Undodog approaches to press again, before the screen irises out. Talking to Undodog in story mode and completing the three jobs he offers will unlock the Reset Dress for the player's Mii, which is a sleeveless dress designed to resemble the Reset Rocket. In nighttime course themes in the Super Mario World game style, it's possible to see Undodog riding a Reset Rocket from left to right. A Reset Rocket with Soundfrog and Undodog can be placed in a Super World in the Space theme.
