However, the minigame is mandatory for the story to progress. The Mario Bros. could also play this arcade game for free. The rules of Star 'Stache Smash, as explained by a Geno doll (a text bubble in the remake), is to tilt the tray with the items on it into the open holes at each side of the screen. There is only one side open at a time. Pressing / will tilt the tray to the right while pressing / will tilt the tray to the left.
