As such, if the rocks now hit a Chuckorok, they would knock the beast away and reward Mario and Luigi with a point. If the brothers caught a [[Barrier Mushroom]], getting hit or manually firing their more-direct barrier at a Chuckorok would also make the creature explode. Although destroying Chuckoroks was a fairly simple feat to pull off, as the Mario Bros. progressed in Chuckola Bounce, Chuckoroks would begin to vary in size; smaller (and therefore harder-to-hit) Chuckoroks would begin to appear.

It is very interesting to note that the Chuckoroks are actually a clever reference to the ''[[The Legend of Zelda]]'' video game series. Specifically, Chuckoroks mirror ''The Legend of Zelda''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s [[Octorok]] enemies, who, on an unrelated note, actually managed to appear in the ''[[Mario (series)|Mario]]''-related game ''[[Super Smash Bros. Melee]]''. Chuckoroks are clear parodies of the Octoroks in that both enemies are circular, angry-eyed enemies who spit rocks out of tubular, [[Snifit]]-reminiscent mouths, not to mention that the name "Chuckorok" is even a portmanteau of "Chuckola" and "Octorok".
Chuckoroks move in tandem around the arena in a circular motion, and spit Chuckola Rocks at Mario and Luigi; these rocks stun the brothers on contact. Hitting the Chuckola Rocks with the Chuckola Board turns them blue and sends them back towards the Chuckoroks. If a Chuckola Rock hits a Chuckorok, it is defeated, and one point is added to the brothers' score. If a brother touches a Barrier Mushroom, a Chuckola Rock that hits him will automatically defeat the Chuckorok that sent it.

Chuckorok

Chuckoroks are a species of round, rock-like monsters seen only in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga.

Mario and Luigi encounter Chuckoroks during their return to Chucklehuck Woods in search of the Beanstar pieces. Entering a small area inhabited solely by the Winkles, they are eventually forced to enter Winkle Colosseum to receive the Beanstar piece. They play the Chuckola Bounce minigame in the Colosseum, which pits them against the Chuckoroks.

Chuckoroks that are defeated will be replaced after a while. After defeating a certain number of Chuckoroks, they will begin to be replaced by smaller ones that are harder to hit.

A Chuckorok from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions.
A Chuckorok in the remake

Chuckoroks reappear in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions with an identical purpose. However, the 'X's on top of their heads are replaced by a giant swirl. Their eyes are completely black, but turn red when they spit Chuckola Rocks or Barrier Mushrooms.
