The Mecha King Bob-omb

This article is about the battle. For the character itself, see Mecha King Bob-omb.

The Mecha King Bob-omb is a battle in Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, specifically in the The Last Spark Hunter DLC. It is found beyond the Swamp Gate on the Melodic Gardens. This battle is part of the A Friend In Need Main Quest.

The Mecha King Bob-omb is split into two parts - each with its own battle. In the first part, the heroes must free the Dorrie from its cage while the Mecha King Bob-omb is chasing the heroes. The second part has the heroes actually battling against the Mecha King Bob-omb.

Kanya is controlling the Mecha King Bob-omb from inside. After the heroes defeat the machine, it malfunctions and subsequently spring off into space with Kanya still inside, defeating them both for good.

Objective   Open the Cage and set the Dorrie free
Music track Mecha King Bob-omb Blast
“Oh, boy! Oh, boy! Oh, boy! Let's think this through - we MUST save that Dorrie  , that's our primary objective... ...but there's no use fighting the Mecha King Bob-omb   for the time being, it's invulnerable, even to its own Bob-ombs  ! But how to clear a path to that Dorrie when there are Darkmess Blobs   sitting on the ground buttons   we need to activate? Aha! We'll use the Bob-ombs to destroy the Darkmess Blobs, then activate the ground buttons to alter the terrain! We'll need to choose the path we create carefully - different enemies await us with each approach. To the Tacticam!”
Beep-O, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

LayoutEdit

The battlefield is massive in size and has many island with Golems and Scopers inhabiting them, as well as ground buttons covered with Darkmess Blobs. These ground buttons cause new terrain to emerge from the water, creating new paths for the heroes.

At the start where the heroes are is the Mecha King Bob-omb behind them. Two Bob-ombs are also present at the start to allow the heroes to use them to flee the Mecha King Bob-omb.

On the opposite side of the battlefield is Allegra, close to the Dorrie trapped inside a cage. The ground button right next to the cage will open the cage upon activating it.

BattleEdit

The heroes must strategically plan their route as they make progress across the islands. The Mecha King Bob-omb will follow them from behind, walking as well as jumping into the air, causing a shockwave upon landing. Every turn the mech will summon three Bob-ombs at once. The Mecha King Bob-omb is also invincible, and cannot be defeated during this part of the battle. The heroes must use the summoned Bob-ombs to destroy Darkmess Blobs on the switches to allow the heroes to use them. After the ground button closest to the Dorrie is activated, the cage opens, and the Dorrie is free.

Allegra and the Dorrie rush to the heroes' aid

A cutscene after freeing the Dorrie shows Allegra and the Dorrie uniting and rushing towards Kanya's location, who is determined to stop them as well as the heroes.

Objective   Defeat Mecha King Bob-omb
  XP 5740

Music track Mecha King Bob-omb Bombs
“The tide has turned - I hope. Allegra   is with us! See that sound amplification antenna   inside the cage? If we destroy the Blobs   covering the cage's ground buttons   so we can activate them, we can free the antenna! After that, it will be up to Allegra and the Dorrie   to use it to get us past the Mecha King Bob-omb's   shield  !”
Beep-O, Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope

LayoutEdit

The battlefield is large and circular, with plenty of cover and a hole in the middle, where the sound amplification antenna is located. Four cannons are located on the edges of the battlefield. There is a Darkmess Blob covering a ground button close to the heroes' position. Two Bob-ombs, as well as the Mecha King Bob-omb are close to the heroes as well. Two Fieldbreakers are at the opposite side of the battlefield. Allegra and the Dorrie can be seen in the water around the battlefield.

BattleEdit

To remove Mecha King Bob-omb's shield, the heroes must activate the ground button, lowering the cage of the sound amplification antenna, and thus allowing Allegra and the Dorrie to launch water at it, activating the antenna and sending a pulse throughout the battlefield, deactivating the barrier of the mech. When Mecha King Bob-omb is at half HP, it regains its barrier, and three more Darkmess Blob-covered ground buttons emerge. After those ground buttons are activated, Mecha King Bob-omb loses its shield for the rest of the battle.

Mecha King Bob-omb malfunctions and springs off into outer space with Kanya still inside

Mecha King Bob-omb has different abilities in this part of the battle. It no longer jumps but instead spins towards the heroes as its movement, damaging and pushing away anything in the way, as well as destroying cover. Four Bob-ombs are also summoned at a time instead of three. Indestructible Darkmess portals containing Fieldbreakers can appear during the battle. After Mecha King Bob-omb is defeated, it malfunctions while Kanya desperately tries to regain control, and the mech rockets into outer space with Kanya still inside.
