HistoryEdit

Super Mario WorldEdit

A Bonus Coin being dropped

In Super Mario World and its reissue, a Yoshi Cloud drops ten Bonus Coins, one at a time, after which it flies away. If Mario or Luigi manages to collect all ten coins before they faze through the ground after bouncing once on it, the Yoshi Cloud will reward him with a 1-Up Mushroom.

If Mario or Luigi abandons Yoshi and flies one screen above the Yoshi Cloud, a glitch will cause the Bonus Coins to appear as if they were doubled.[2]

In an early version of Super Mario World, the Bonus Coins were originally designed with a star on each. This appearance would later be used for the coins in Super Mario 64.

Super Mario-kunEdit

In chapter 8 of volume 2 in Super Mario-kun, while fighting a Jumping Pumpkin Plant, Mario falls on Yoshi, making him pop out an egg that releases a Yoshi Cloud. Mario jumps on it and eats the Bonus Coins, becoming the big-headed Nikoniko Mario, scaring off the enemy.
