The race takes place in a mall set in a beach setting. The first parts of this course are very straight, but it starts with two escalators going in opposite directions. The [[Pianta]] nearby will point to the escalator the player would want to go through, which is in this case, upwards. After that, the player may choose to go through three paths. One of them is descending into a lower level via escalator that always go downwards while the other two stay on the current level.

After the first turn, there is a fountain and another set of escalators, much like the beginning of the race. The player then needs to go up a passageway into another room with more fountains and some boost pads.
The race begins at the entrance to the mall.  There are stairs that lead up to two escalators that move in opposite directions; a Pianta points at the one moving in the right direction. The escalators lead to an upper level of the mall, where the player has the choice to either stay on the upper level or to descend to a lower level.  All of the different paths meet up on the lower level, near a fountain that the racers can perform stunts on.  After the fountain, the racers reach two more escalators, with another Pianta pointing at the correct one.


After an upward right turn in a metal passageway, the racers arrive in another room with more shops.  There are palm trees on elevated platforms that the players can perform stunts on, another fountain, and boost panels near the sides of the room. Item boxes are found in various places. In addition, tables with umbrellas, palm trees, and the mall's pillars serve as obstacles.
After that, there is another room and a turn to the exit of the mall and into the parking lot. Cars with the player's [[Mii]]s in them will drive back and forth in the parking lot, which the player must avoid. If players hit the Mii's then they will be knocked back. After a final right turn the player will cross the start/finish line starting another lap.


There is another metal passageway that leads upward to the right, leading the racers into a smaller room.  There are two paths the player can then take.  The first is to the right with a boost panel, leading the racers upward and ending in a jump to the parking lot.  The other passageway leads into another room with a palm tree and some item boxes. There is a flat boost panel that the racers can perform stunts on. The racers land in the same area as the latter route.

After a 90 degree turn right, there are three cars, driven by the player's Miis, that interfere with the race while trying to park. There are also three boost panels, but they make it difficult to avoid the cars. After a final right turn is the finish line, signaling the start the next lap.

Two boost panels reside in the giant ramp and the second takes the player out of the mall and into the parking lot, falling from a distance, allowing the player to do a stunt before dropping down. The other passageway leads into a room, which turns right. There is another bump and a palm tree with some item boxes around. There is a flat boost panel that the player can still do a stunt on and the player will end up in the same area as the latter route.

Shortcuts

In Coconut Mall, there is one shortcut, although it is normally recommended for Time Trials, and requires a Mushroom. After getting a Turbo Boost after the race starts, players must head up the stairs and then over the escalator. They then must head to the far right, staying near the glass windows with Miis behind them. After a very short distance, players should see an opening in the glass wall. They should swerve in there and use a Mushroom to boost over the carpet. They'll then exit the store after the Mushroom and drop back to the main course. Players can also keep to the right until they reach the right side of one of the escalators and get back onto the main course. On a side note, vehicles with high off-road stats can handle this shortcut without a mushroom boost.

There is another shortcut that will save players a few seconds. After going outside for the first time, they must race back inside. Then, instead of driving on the huge silver ramp, they must stay to the right and go through a small tunnel until coming to a sun-filled room. Then, they can jump out of the room and race back to the regular course.

Competitions

The first competition of July 2008 took place at Coconut Mall. Players had to collect all fifty coins in the fastest time possible. This competition was later repeated as July 2010's first competition.

Mario Kart 7

This track reappears in Mario Kart 7 as the third race in the Banana Cup. There are many changes that have occurred to the course, mostly due to technical limitations of the Nintendo 3DS, but only a few of these affect the gameplay. Firstly, all the advertisements and mall-goers have disappeared, and there are colored arrows on the escalators to show the racers which direction they are moving. As well, some Item Boxes have been replaced with coins. The change to the gameplay is that, in both jumps that lead out of the mall and into the parking lot, they now encompass a gliding section. The last car with the player's Mii is removed, making it easier to hit the boost panel on the last one. Instead of Daisy being the staff ghost data on this course for time trials, Honey Queen takes her place.

  • Among the things to buy to eat are Mushrooms (Red and Green), Fire Flowers, Bananas, and Starmen.
  • The advertisements are filled with the player's Miis. On top of that, most customers in the mall are also the player's Miis.
  • Many of the shops have the phrase "Coco" in their names such as "Coco Burger" and "Coco Cafe". Coco most likely stands for coconut, hence the name of the track.
