If enough time has elapsed before the Yoshi reaches the finish line, the Chomp begins eating the melons one by one until the Yoshi crosses the finish line or it has eaten all of the melons, the latter resulting in the failure of the minigame. The Melon Race is a special minigame that occurs in Yoshi's Story. The event is triggered after a Baby Yoshi hits specific ? Blocks located in certain levels. When the ? Block is hit, a red flag with the yellow word "START" on it appears near the ? Block, while a GOAL flag appears at some larger distance away. The goal of the Melon Race is to cross the finish line as quickly as possible after passing by the starting line.
