"World"[1] is a musical theme in New Super Mario Bros. U where it plays in the game's map screens.

Composition[edit]

"World"'s instrumentations changes as the player progresses. There are eight variations of "World":

  • The first variation, "World: Acorn Plains", plays in the map screen for Acorn Plains.
  • The second variation, "World Layer-Cake Desert", plays in the map screen for Layer-Cake Desert.
  • The fifth variation, "World: Soda Jungle", plays in Soda Jungle's map screen. When the player enters the dark forest that features the Ghost House in Soda Jungle, "World: Soda Jungle (Ghost House Area)" instead plays.
  • The sixth variation, "World: Rock-Candy Mines", plays in the map screen for Rock-Candy Mines, while "World: Meringue Clouds", the seventh and final variation in the game, plays in Meringue Clouds' map screens.

New Super Mario Bros. U / New Super Luigi U / New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe[edit]

New Super Mario Bros. U marks the first appearance of all versions of "World". They also return in New Super Luigi U and the Nintendo Switch port, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, for the same purposes.

The theme that plays on the map screen for Superstar Road quotes "World" on a flute. It is likewise titled "World: Superstar Road" in the Nintendo Music app.
