Locator

Locators are a type of pickup exclusive to the DOS, CD-ROM Deluxe and Macintosh versions of Mario is Missing!. Unlike other versions of the game, the map in the DOS and CD-ROM Deluxe versions only show the location of Luigi and the city's information booths by default. Collecting locators around the city will add icons to the map, and a corresponding button on the HUD that will toggle those icons on and off. Each city has between nine and eleven locators in it, divided into three types.

List of Locators

Luigi Locator

The Luigi Locator has a blue icon with a green L. It indicates the location of the player on the map.

Koopa Locator

Koopa Locators have a green shell icon on them. In the CD-ROM Deluxe version, a gruff voice says "Koopa!" when one is collected. Each Koopa walkie-talkie shows the location of one Koopa Troopa in the city. If the corresponding Koopa's item has been collected, the shell icon will turn gray. As the number of Koopas varies between three and five in different cities, the number of Koopa walkie-talkies also varies.

Citizen Locator

Citizen Locators have a simplistic tan human icon on them. In the CD-ROM Deluxe version, they make a popping noise when collected. Each city has five Citizen Locators. Though there is no visual difference between them, each corresponds to a certain type of person walking around — kids, tourists, tour guides, professors, and police officers — and will show every roaming NPC of that type on the map.

Pokey Locator

Pokey Locators add an icon of a Pokey's head to the HUD when collected, but the walkie-talkies themselves have an icon of one of their body segments. In the CD-ROM Deluxe version, a pitched-up voice says "Pokey!" when one is collected. There is only one Pokey walkie-talkie in each city. It shows the location of all Pokeys in the city, and by extension, the exit pipes they are guarding.
