The Rail Ride is a technique introduced in Mario Kart World. After touching a grindrail (either by driving onto it, by falling on it, or by charge-jumping onto it), the player automatically begins to rail-ride on it. Rail-riding generates a Mini-Turbo, with the boost increasing the longer the player grinds. The animation of rail-riding differs depending on vehicle type, with karts balancing on either the left or the right wheels, while bikes grind with the back wheel.

In Free Roam, some Peach Medallions can be found on grindrails or at high places with grindrails leading to them, and are intended to be reached using a Rail Ride.
