A '''Gorgon''' is a relative of [[Enigma]]s in ''[[Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars]]''. They are encountered in the [[Sunken Ship]]. Although a Gorgon resembles a large, green bat, the monster is actually a colony of identical smaller bats that come together to create one larger Gorgon. Somehow, these bats can both think independently and combine their consciousnesses to act as one being. These bats can even detach themselves from the group and reform into different shapes. The name "{{wp|Gorgon}}" originally comes from Greek monsters that resemble women with colonies of snakes as their hair.

Enigmaxes (originally known as Gorgons) is an enemy in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars and its remake. They resemble green Enigmas, and are encountered in the Sunken Ship. Unlike Enigmas, Enigmaxes can attack with magic, and are weak to thunder attacks. Their original name "Gorgon" comes from Greek monsters that resemble women with colonies of snakes as their hair.
