Oil,[1] also referred to as an oil bin[2] or oil drum,[3] is a ghostly[4] obstacle in the Game Boy version of Donkey Kong. It consists of fire in a tin resembling an oil drum with the text "OIL" written on it.

Donkey Kong series[edit]

Donkey Kong (Game Boy)[edit]

Debuting in Donkey Kong since Stage 1-1, Oils float up and down in place, but touching it is deadly. They can be destroyed with the hammer.

Mario vs. Donkey Kong[edit]

Oil reappears in Mario vs. Donkey Kong and behaves the same way, with the can now even more resembling an oil drum.

Super Mario Kodansha manga[edit]

In the Super Mario Kodansha manga, an Oil appear in the enemy list of Super Mario: Donkey Kong 1, but in the story it only appears briefly in chapter 3 of Super Mario: Donkey Kong 2, helping the Kongs fight the Kremling Krew, until DK and Donkey Kong Snr. are knocked out, causing the Kong army to retreat after the defeat of their leaders.
