Stage 5-4 is the fourth level in the Desert in the Game Boy version of Donkey Kong. This level is the first encounter with Donkey Kong in the Desert.

Layout[edit]

Mario starts on a Conveyor Belt which leads into the Spikes. There's a conveyor belt above the first conveyor belt to the left which Mario can get on, but if he jumps, he will collide into the spikes on the ceiling and lose a life. Donkey Kong will sometimes jump up and pound down on the ground, which will shake everything and stuns Mario if he's on the ground or on a Ladder. This also causes debris (vases, chests, and blocks) to fall down which can crush Mario. Mario must jump onto the conveyor belt with ladders then climb up either ladder once it connects to the next platform so he can get up there. Once he is up there, he must dodge the pound and the debris, then climb the last ladder once it is connected and run to the left to Pauline. Spikes are also found on the ceiling close to Pauline. Once Mario reaches her, the level ends with Donkey Kong taking her away again.

Enemies[edit]

Cutscene after level completion[edit]

Mario arrives from the right but Donkey Kong is on the other side where puts Pauline down, confident Mario can't the jump over the huge pit. Mario then goes back and starts to perform the Handstand Jump; he makes it over to the pit with his second jump but hits his head on the ceiling, causing him to hold his head in pain and allowing Donkey Kong to grab Pauline and escape. Mario then does the pose he does after a Handstand Jump before holding his head again; he then continues to chase after Donkey Kong before the cutscene ends. The player is then given lives based on their score.
