Stage 5-11 is the eleventh level of the Desert in the Game Boy version of Donkey Kong. The level revolves around using Blocks and switches.

Mario starts off in midair and will immediately fall down onto the activated bridge below. Mario must go either left or right to get to a part with a Ladder leading down to an area with a roaming Sukōpī and the switch which deactivates the two bridges. The lever also shuts the gates, trapping him, so before he goes down there, he must activate the Block, then place it in one of the gate's way to block it, then he must go down the ladder while watching out for the Sukōpī, jumping over it if it's close, and get to the lever in time to pull it to the left and deactivate the bridges and activate the unblocked gate. Mario then must go back through the unblocked route and climb up the ladder to get back up to where he started. He can now go down to grab the key and throw it up to the platforms higher up, then grab it again and take to the door to end the level.

When Mario returns to the starting point, before ending the level, he can reach up to a platform with another lever using the nearby Blocks to obtain two of Pauline's lost items. Once up onto the platform, he must jump up to activate the Road Block, then connect it to either side of the platform he's on, which will connect to one of the platforms. Mario must then pull the lever to the right to deactivate the gates, which will allow Mario to enter, though the left one will free a Sukōpī, causing it to roam around as an obstacle. There is also third Sukōpī in the level, but as it's on the outside, it poses no threat.

Pauline's lost items[edit]

Within this stage, Pauline's lost items can be found in the following order and in the following places:

  • Hat: In the area at the top of the level behind the gate on the right.
  • Bag: In the area with the Sukōpī above the switch.
  • Parasol: In the area at the top of the level behind the gate on the left.
